Jade was still trying to figure out what to do when Felix called. He told her to get to the private club he liked to bring his lovers to immediately. If she didn't, he would reject her funding request immediately.
As soon as Jade entered the private room, she saw Felix passionately kissing Naomi, while the others cheered them on. Jade instinctively looked down.
Even so, she noticed several expensive new pieces of jewelry on Naomi, especially the diamond bracelet on her wrist. That was something only Felix's wife was entitled to wear.
Right after the wedding, Felix had violently stripped that diamond bracelet from her wrist, snarling, "You're not worthy of wearing it!"
"Jade, I'm allergic to alcohol. So I'll have to leave it to you."
Naomi spoke with a sweet smile on her flushed face, but her eyes were full of malice. Three glasses of hard liquor were set down in front of Jade.
"I had cephalosporin today," Jade said quietly, holding out her right hand toward Felix. "I can't drink."
Even in the shifting neon light, Felix could see the bruised puncture marks scattered across the back of her pale hand. Her fingers were still wrapped in thick bandages from the frostbite. She looked thinner than usual, frailer, somehow.
But Felix's face remained unreadable. He clearly didn't believe her. "Drink them. Or I'll have someone help you."
Jade knew she had no choice. She took a breath, pulled out her phone clumsily, and dialed emergency services.
"Hello, I need an ambulance here. Someone at Sunset Club is drinking alcohol after being injected with cephalosporin. Thank you."
After hanging up, Jade expressionlessly downed all three glasses of strong liquor.
"Wow, Jade, you're amazing... Come on, Felix!"
The game continued. And somehow, Naomi kept losing in ways that meant more drinks for Jade. One glass after another appeared in front of her.
Jade never argued. She simply drank. Her body was already reacting badly, but she said nothing, swallowing the liquor as if it were water. Only the color rising across her face and the slight sway in her body betrayed how wrong something was.
Felix noticed. Jade could drink better than almost anyone he knew. She had built that tolerance through business dinners and contract negotiations. This amount shouldn't have affected her.
He subconsciously frowned and was just about to tell Jade to stop.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door of the private room. Someone had sent an anonymous package to Naomi.
Curious, Naomi opened the package in front of everyone. Inside was a file folder. Naomi opened it with a puzzled look, glanced inside, and then burst into a sobbing breakdown.
The pictures were scattered across the floor. Jade, whose vision was already somewhat blurry, took a great deal of effort to see clearly that! They showed Naomi in compromising poses, the kind that were obviously taken under coercion!
"Jade! I know you hate me and want me gone! But do you really hate me so much that you'd do this? Will you only let me go if I die?"
Then, before anyone could react, Naomi snatched up the fruit knife from the table and drove it toward her own chest. Blood sprayed everywhere. Some of it splattered across Felix's face.
"Naomi!" Felix caught her at once. He scooped her into his arms and rushed for the door just as the ambulance Jade had called arrived downstairs. Medical staff ran up with a stretcher, and Felix laid Naomi on it without hesitation.
Jade could barely stay upright now. She dropped to one knee, her chest tightening so violently she could hardly breathe.
Her throat felt like it was closing. Using the last of her strength, she reached out and grabbed the hem of Felix's pants. "Felix... Help me... Please... I don't want to die..."
"It would be better if you did!" Felix said these words coldly, kicked her off him, and walked away.
Jade's body slammed backward. The back of her head struck the sharp corner of the coffee table. And then everything went black.
