I was staring deep into his green eyes, his breath was heavy, mine soft. I was trying not to breathe too hard so it wouldn't be obvious how nervous I was.
He caressed my face and then planted a soft kiss on my lips.
My head spun and all I could think about was that moment. His soft lips, his gentle hands, and how he could sweep me off my feet so easily.
Then again, I am supposed to hate this man but here I am melting in his arms.
He was wearing just a towel, and I was wearing only my nightgown, so it wasn't hard to notice some changes in his body.
He didn't stop kissing me, instead, he intensified his kisses, and I was running out of breath.
Suddenly, I remembered what he did to me and my family, and I pushed him away.
He was staring at me.
“I have to go to bed,” I said breathlessly.
“That's all right, at least your first reaction wasn't to push me away, and for that I am glad.”
“Goodnight”
“Goodnight little princess” he replied.
I lay on the bed, but I couldn't sleep. I was thinking of what happened less than five minutes ago.
My precious spot felt warm and wet.
I was wondering if I would one day do it with him and whether I would eventually let him consummate our marriage.
These thoughts filled my mind until I drifted off to sleep.
I woke up feeling hearty and happy.
But Dante was not in bed. I guess he left early for work.
Well, that was good news for me because I would not have to train.
“Good morning Stephan,” I said, walking into the dining hall.
“Good morning ma'am, did you sleep well?”
“Of course I did. Did you happen to see Dante before he left?”
“Well, he left last night, ma'am, not this morning,” Stephan said before entering the kitchen.
“Hmm OK, thank you.”
Since I slept off before him, I didn't see him when he left, but then again, that would mean that he has not been back since. Well, I couldn't care less.
“Good morning Elizabeth,” Dante said, walking in.
“Good morning, I hear you left last night.”
“Yes, I had some work to handle. Well, Paolo is bringing some things inside, and we are going to a dinner party this evening, so you need to get ready. I have also prepared a spa day for you, so freshen up before they arrive”
“But you don't even know my size or what dresses I would like. I could have gotten my things myself”
“You shouldn't have to, after all, you are my wife. Just try them on, it won't hurt you, either” he said, smirking. Before sitting at the dining table, Dante replied plainly.
“Stephan, please serve breakfast.”
“Yes sir” came the reply from the kitchen.
After breakfast, I freshened up and tried the dress and shoes Dante got for me. I still wonder where he would have gotten them at night.
That wasn't the big issue, the big issue was that the dress and shoes were beautiful and they fit perfectly. A smile crept on my face and my heart fluttered as I thought about what he must have gone through to get a dress this beautiful.
“I can see you like it,” Dante said.
I was so preoccupied with admiring the dress that I didn't notice when he walked in.
“You are beautiful, wife.”
“Thank you,” I said, blushing.
Spa day was wonderful. I had some ladies come over, and they did my pedicure and manicure and all the lot. The day passed so swiftly, it was already evening.
Dante was waiting for me to finish. I got ready and went downstairs to meet him. I could see his eyes light up when he saw me, and he fixed his gaze on me. His stare made my heart pump in my chest.
“Lovely,” he said.
“Thank you”
“The car is ready sir” Paolo, Dante's bodyguard said.
“Okay”
He led me, holding my hand to the car, and then he opened the door for me. The ride to the venue was quiet, and it took about thirty minutes to get there.
The venue looked extremely luxurious and grand.
We entered and were greeted by many dignitaries and, from what I observed, they all seemed to hold Dante in some kind of reference and respect.
“Hello, my lady”, I turned to look at the extremely handsome young man who took my hand from Dante's to kiss it.
“Oh good evening,” I said, feeling my heart squeeze at his gesture.
“Ahh! Luciano,” Dante said, grinning, although it seemed fake. This is Luciano, an old friend, and Luciano. This is my wife, Elizabeth.
“I can see that Dante. She is quite a beauty.”
Beneath all the cordial behavior, I could sense the tension between them.
They talked for a while before we moved on to greet other people.
The party seemed like it was going to last forever. I hardly knew anyone and Luciano was always staring at me weirdly whenever Dante was not with me, which was most of the time.
Then, as if God heard my prayers, Dante told me it was time to go. I was at least relieved. Since I got married to Dante, my life has lost its flavor, just boring old dinner parties with strangers and, to top it off, being married to a man I barely knew or loved.
Dante and I bade some fellows’ goodbye before heading home.
I noticed the driver was nowhere to be found.
“Where is the driver?”
“I sent him away”, Dante replied dryly before opening the door for me, entered, and drove off.
I didn't say anything as we drove.
After a while, Dante stopped the car in the middle of nowhere.
“What happened” I asked, a bit worried.
“I want to give you something.”
My heart started beating in my chest as he reached for the back seat of the car and took out a box. He opened it and removed the necklace.
“Oh my gosh, it's beautiful.”
“Let me help you put it on.”
He put the necklace on my neck. It was a beautiful gold necklace with an emerald-colored pendant. It was beautiful.
“Thank you,” I said, looking into his eyes.
“The necklace only finds its beauty when you are wearing it,” he said, and my face started to burn.
I was blushing hard and I couldn't help myself. I felt like I was on top of the world.
My heart fluttered as I kept on smiling.
He inched closer and held my face in his hands before joining his lips with mine. It wasn't like most of his rough kisses, it was slow and passionate and whether I liked it or not, I obliged and kissed him back.
He paused and looked into my eyes. He was about to say something when his eyes widened at something behind me, and before I could turn to see, he screamed “Get down” and almost simultaneously pushed my head down along with himself, the next and only thing I could hear was the sound of shattering glass.
