Chapter 4

935 Words
ELIZABETH'S POV It was almost three hours, and he was not back yet. I didn't know where he went but I'm certain it had to do with the attack. I still couldn't sleep. Whenever I closed my eyes, the sound of the gunshot and shattering glass kept replaying in my head. I was still in bed for another 30 minutes when I heard the doorknob open. It was Dante. I pretended to be asleep. He went to our bed and kissed my forehead. “You don't have to pretend to be sleeping” “I'm not pretending I'm just trying to sleep,” I said, opening my eyes. Can't sleep? “No” “It appears you haven't had your bath, you are still in the dress you wore.” “I have not been able to stand up,” I said softly. “Okay” The next thing I knew, he was carrying me to the bathroom. “What are you doing” I asked in confusion. “I wanted to help you so you could take a bath. I also need a bath” “It's okay, I can walk,” I said, feigning strength. “I want to help” he persisted. I wanted to hide my feelings as much as possible, but I loved him carrying me. He put me in the bathtub and proceeded to unzip my dress. “What….what are you doing?” “I'm helping you undress.” “No don't” “You're my wife. I will eventually see all of it.” “But…’’ “Shhhhhh.” He came closer to me and stared at me deep in my eyes, so deep he could probably see into my soul. “Turn around, Elizabeth.” His voice at that instant made me tremble, it was cold yet alluring and hypnotizing. I couldn't help myself. I turned around, and he unzipped my dress and let it fall to the floor. The only pieces of clothing left on my body were my undies. He then reached to the shelf in the bathroom and picked up my scented bath oil and body wash. After putting an adequate amount of their contents into the water in the bathtub, he undressed himself completely and got in the bathtub. I was feeling rather reluctant, but I couldn't take a bath with my undies on, so I also removed them. We were both stark naked, and I was embarrassed. Although I tried my best not to look down at his abdomen. He helped me into the bathtub. I could feel the awkward silence between us as he used his hands to caress my back with the soapy water. Where did you go to? “Huh?” he asked, feigning ignorance. “You heard me.” “I had to finish something up” “Right after we were attacked?” I knew he was lying. “It was urgent” “You left me here all alone and I…” I said, feeling the fear grip me all over again. “I am sorry, okay? It was very important, and I'm here now. Let's not spoil this precious moment.” His words calmed me down, and I relaxed on his body. After a while in the bath, we both stepped out and prepared to sleep. His back was facing my face when we were on the bed. I wanted him to look at me, but at the same time I wanted to push him away, I wanted to hate him and I wanted to resent him, but all those feelings disappeared when he turned and looked at me with his beautiful green eyes. “Still can't sleep?” he asked. “No” “All right, should I sing you a lullaby?” “Oh please, no,” I said in between laughs before my tone became a bit serious. “I kind of feel that you are two-sided and that there is a part of you that you don't want to show me.” “I don't want to frighten you, little princess.” “I'm not little, I'm a grown woman,” I said in annoyance. “The grown woman that will always be my little princess, or do you happen to like other names like ‘baby’ or ‘honey’” he said while laughing. He made me smile. He was so carefree, and I imagined it was partly because of what happened earlier. He was just trying to make me forget all about it. “I don't know about the other names” I replied shyly. “I won't change the name I have given you, whether you like it or not.” “OK sir” I replied, laughing lightly. A deafening silence followed our laughter as we kept on staring at each other. I could feel the tension rising between us. He placed his hand on my shoulder and traced his way up to my neck and my face, then he tucked my hair behind my ear. My breath became shallow as he moved closer to my face, looking deep into my eyes, he moved his face upward and planted a kiss on my forehead. “Goodnight Elizabeth” “Goodnight” Trying to ease the tension, I turned my back to face him, but he just came closer, held me closer, and kissed my neck. “Sweet dreams” “You too,” I said almost in a whisper. I woke up in the morning and Dante was not in bed. I was alone again, oh no….
