“Good morning little princess,” Dante said, coming inside the room. I can't believe I was so paranoid that I got unnecessarily worried. And something was strange.
“Breakfast in bed?”
“Wow, I never knew that the all-mighty Dante could serve me breakfast in bed,” I said, grinning.
“Well, here you are Madame” he replied, placing the food tray on my lap as I sat up.
“You know when I woke up, and I didn't see you, I got scared for a second, I felt alone.”
“I'm sorry about that. My intention wasn't to scare you.”
“It's all right, I understand,” I said as I started eating the food. I really couldn't make out what it was because it looked weird, but it was like a sandwich and, oh my gosh, it was very meaty and chewy and cheesy. Oh I was drooling.
“Stephan's good,” I said with a full mouth.
“Stephan? I prepared this all by myself, I even had to send Stephan away in the morning, and you are here giving him credit for my food.” Dante said, pouting like a little child.
My eyes were wide with shock, Dante could cook, and I never knew. But all my shock was replaced by laughter at his goofy face.
“You don't have to be upset. I'm sorry for undermining you and the food is delicious.”
I said smiling.
He didn't say anything, he just kept on staring at me before suddenly speaking up.
“Well, today I will be doing whatever you want, so no training. You get to go everywhere and do anything you want. Only for today”
My happiness knew no bounds, Dante never let me do whatever I wanted, so today was special.
“Oh my gosh, thanks” I squealed and hugged him.
He didn't hug me back and I pulled away. I guess he must have been surprised. I was too. “Sorry” I muttered,
“Finish your food and get ready,” Dante said before leaving the room.
I ate quickly and took my bath. I was very excited when I wore my short summer dress and did a little make-up. I held my hair up in a messy bun, after which I headed downstairs where Dante was waiting for me.
“I’m ready,” I said while coming down the stairs.
“You look pretty, but I like your hair better when it's down” Dante said when he moved to remove my hairband, leaving my hair to fall over my shoulders. “Better.” I blushed at this gesture.
“So where are we going first,” I inquired excitedly,
“Where do you want to go?”
“I want to have coffee first and talk over light matters”
“To the coffee shop it is”, Dante joked, and we made our way to the car.
My relationship with Dante was improving by the day, and it makes me feel happy. I even find it difficult to resent him for putting me and my family in a fix and making me marry him. This marriage was probably destined to be.
The ride was quiet, but Dante held my hand all through while his other hand was on the steering.
After arriving at the coffee shop, we went inside and ordered Espresso for ourselves.
“It seems we like the same things” I said and chuckled.
“What can I say? People tend to copy me.”
“Copy you? You’re a cocky one” I said, giggling.
“I sure am.”
There was silence as we both took sips of our Espresso,
“Um, Elizabeth. I want to tell you something”
“Ok, go ahead”
“I'm sorry”
“What for?”
“I forced you to marry me and I know it was never your choice, and I'm sorry for putting you and your family in a tight spot.”
I almost cried, my throat felt dry, and my heart felt heavy. My eyes were burning, and I couldn't control myself as a few drops of tears escaped my eyes.
“It's alright don't cry.” Dante said as he shifted his chair closer to mine and made to clean my tears with his handkerchief.
“I don't want you to ever shed a single tear again because of me. I was selfish and let my desires take hold of me. I didn't think about you and your family and how you felt about this marriage. I wanted you for myself. I loved you, I have loved you before you even knew me and I just didn't want anyone getting a hold of you. So I wanted to have you and I took advantage of my and your family's problems to trap you. I'm sorry.”
I could feel the remorse in his eyes. I never knew he loved me. I was shocked to hear all of this, and I couldn't make any sense of it, but I could see that he wasn't lying.
“It's all right, I forgive you, besides, and the deed has been done. There would be no need to hold a grudge against you.”
“I know you don't love me and I will not force you to love me. If you cannot continue with this marriage, then I will agree to a divorce.”
“A divorce?”
