The days went by all busy and hectic and if Lizzie was being any honest with herself..., After that mental breakup with Melody she was much happier and more free to pour all that was into her to her work lately.
She was busy checking the inventory when she heard her personal phone ringing and for once in a week it wasn't Melody but, her brother.
"Hello gorgeous" A humorous male voice was heard from the other side of the phone after she accepted the call, "Took you long enough to pick up the phone... Are you being kidnapped?. Say house if you are!" Rumbled on her brother dramatically.
"What a drama king" Said Lizzie with a laugh, "To what do I owe this honor of speaking to you, Mr Powell?"
"Well it's your auspicious day for sure and me like the beautiful male member of your house, I'm inviting you to dine with the family tonight" Said her brother boisterously.
"We saw each other just last week and I'm super busy with work right now" Complained Lizzie while nibbling on the pen that was in her hand with her head resting on the edge of the sofa.
"Grandma said if you aren't there to dine with us then she should die a horrible death" Said her brother in all seriousness making Lizzie tense up
"That's too extreme!"
"I know that but, you know yourself and what you do to all the people around you" Said her brother with a dismissal tone.
"I'm not a witch" Said Lizzie sternly because, that's the one joke she never seemed to brush off.
She works hard to be loved by everyone around her to the point that she forgets her happiness if it stands in another's way.
"...Just come to dinner tonight and put us all at ease here" Said her brother at last. Seeming tired and all worn out from worry.
"Why? What's wrong?" Asked Lizzie seriously getting scared by the second.
"You know what's wrong!" Accused her brother in annoyance.
"Okay, I'm hanging up" Said Lizzie dryly though she knew she'd never do that.
"It's about... don't get me wrong here but, the family knows about your fallout with Melody" Said her brother with a sigh and even by the tone she knew he was that worried about her.
"She's everywhere!" Complained Lizzie resuming her position of resting her head on the sofa.
"I... we're all just worried about you" Said her brother cautiously.
"I'm fine" Lizzie gritted the words out. She had it with Melody and her victimized act.
"Elizabeth..., I know I don't say this much too often but, I love you and if you're hurting in any kind of way then it's hurting me too and this applies to everyone in the family... We care about you"
"Jack..."
"Look, we don't really want to know why you ghosted her and froze her credit cards like that when she's depending on you now that she's due because, you have your own head to make decisions but, can you just come home so we can make sure you're not wasting your life with too much work as an excuse?" Asked Jack gently.
"I'll be there at eight tonight"
"Can't you make it at seven? I have somewhere to be at nine so..."
"How's that my problem?"
"Well, it's not now but, what will you feel if we make your sister in law wait for two hours on our second date?"
"Second_ what? When did she happen?"
"I have my charms on women"
"That explains why you're single in your thirties"
"If sarcasm was a language baby sister you'd have been the most fluent speaker of all time"
"Oh, why thank you"
"So seven?"
"Six thirty with my overnight mentality"
"I wish I won't be the one to tell them that you'd be spending the night or my ears are gonna burst from all their shouts" Said Jack who was getting goosebumps everytime he imagined that making Lizzie laugh in enjoyment.
