Chase POV
I heard the birds chirping first. The light that reached through my blinds was soft, but it was hitting me right in the eyes. I reached over to make sure Makayla was still next to me and smiled when I felt her a couple inches away, sleeping on her stomach. It was her favorite sleeping position.
I stretched before I remembered the events of the last week, and an invisible weight came crashing down on my chest. It felt empty but heavy at the same time. I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling, clasping my hands on my stomach after rolling onto my back.
