Chapter 7: The fight

1312 Words
I walked in class just in time for our first lecture for the day. Mr. Greg, our science teacher came in. Science was a subject I loved most amongst others, so I always gave it my maximum attention. Taking my seat at the end of the classroom, with Asher sitting beside me. I peeped at him, and oh, so handsome. He looks like those Prince charming every princess will want for herself. As if he was aware of the fact that he was being admired, he turned to me and saw me looking at him. My face grew hot immediately as I was caught in the act. “Do you need a card so that you can drool over it each time you want to?” he asked giving me a mischievous smile that read “I am handsome right?” Shaking my head in denial, I tried focusing on the teacher. That didn’t work because of a lack of concentration. My mind was only focused on one person, and nothing could change that fact. I was still lost in thoughts when a wrapped paper fell on my table. It was from Asher. It read "Will you love to go to the cinema today? That is after school". Aww, he wants me to go to the Cinema with me, I felt so happy, but I didn’t allow it to show. I had to pretend like I don’t care. Holding my pen, I scribbled a response and sent it to him. His facial expression showed his disappointment and made me laugh inwardly. I had written down "No, I have homework to do". We both know it wasn’t true, not completely though because we still had Ms. Harley's assignment to submit. Sending me another paper, it said I am not taking NO for an answer. Hahaha, I giggled, I wasn’t an easy-going type, but at least, he is worth it. I nodded in confirmation and I whispered so he could hear “It is okay, I will go with you to the cinema. Make sure you come at 7 p.m prompt”. His smile was a bright one. I turn to concentrate on my lectures, jotting down notes when necessary. The bell rang, and we all when out of the class. Hurrying to my locker, I opened it, and a piece of paper fell out. I wonder how it must have to get itself into my locker since I have a code on it. Picking it up, it was boldly written YOU HAVE PROVEN TO BE STUBBORN, SO BE READY TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES. I looked around, and all I could see were students walking by, or others just standing in groups. Nobody looked suspicious, but I knew immediately where the letter was coming from, and who the author is. “Hey princess, am I the one you are looking for” I heard Asher's hoarse voice, and I quickly shoved the paper into my bag. He noticed it and asked. “What is that she is hiding from me?” he asked trying to take it out of my bag. “Stop that, it is nothing at all”. I said slapping his hand off my bag. He pretended to be hurt, and I quickly added “I am sorry, I don’t think I will be available this evening”. “But you already promised me”, he said his voice full of hurt. “I didn’t promise you, I just accepted to go with you to the cinema”. I tried making him see the difference. “In my dictionary, yes, automatically means is a promise, and that must be fulfilled”. This guy was so arrogant. “Very well, take the yes in me and go to the cinema with, because I am not going anywhere with you”. I said walking away from this crazy fellow. Who did he think he was? The President's son? *** I just fought with my crush, oh Anna, that is very bad of you. You accepted to go out with him, and I don’t see any harm in it. Apart from, the threat of course. But, should I tell him about the threat I saw? No, I couldn’t. I wasn’t even sure of it myself. I had my other subjects for the day, and when the final bell came in signaling closing, I put my stuff in my bag. I saw Asher carrying his bag about to leave the classroom when I said “Are you still interested in going to the cinema tonight?” my voice was shaky as I crossed my heart waiting for his reply. As usual, ever so highly spirited, his reply was “Sure, I will pass by at 6:30 p.m, so be ready”. He said leaving the classroom. I heaved still arranging my bag pack when my desk was suddenly surrounded by a group of three. Raising my head from my bag, I saw Nancy and her two friends, Amber and Rita. My heartbeat accelerating, because I always got bullied by them. Nancy who is the leader of the group was the first to speak. “The little wench is all alone with no bodyguard, a perfect time to deal with her since she doesn’t want to flow with us the soft way”. She said grabbing my bag and throwing it across the classroom. My books spread out of the bag, with every other thing in it. Standing up, trying to hold avoid them, Amber, the tom-boy of the trio, grabbed my hair and I winced in pain. “Please stop, you are hurting me” I cried. But it fell on deaf ears. She pulled my hair the more as if she wanted to uproot it from my scar. Rita held my hands behind me backstopping me from flinching, given a broad view for Nancy to deal with me. She slapped me across the face with rings on her finger. This contact made the skin around my mouth tear into. She punched my nose, make it bleed. As if that was not enough, she used her leg to deal with me. I shouted for help, but no one seemed to hear me. I felt so bad because I was too weak to defend myself. “Now you stay clear from Asher because I wouldn’t take it lightly on you the next time I find you five meters from him. Asking her crew to allow me, I fell in a slump, my body ached, and my nose and mouth were bleeding. Nancy and her friends, ran away from the classroom before anyone could find them. I stayed on the floor for about an hour, weeping. What have I done to myself? Asher does not even notice me that much. Summoning the last energy I had, I woke up, walked to where my bag was, picking it up. Dusting it, I clasp my books and yanked them into my bag. Coming out of the school, it was deserted. Had I known, I would have begged Asher to wait for me to finish packing my bag pack, as this issue would have not happened to me. I didn’t have a car, so I had to walk home in this condition. It was around 4:38 p.m. when I entered the house. My mom was the first to notice me and her scream made dad rush downstairs with a bat in his hand ready to hit any intruder. “Anna darling, what happened to you?” dad asked rushing to me. I was about to answer when everything seemed spinning. I couldn’t explain. Then, my eyes started drawing close to one another. I heard mom's voice calling out, asking me to say something. The last I heard was mom yelling at dad saying “Call an ambulance, my baby is dying”. I wasn’t dying, just that I couldn’t feel my body anymore. I was slowly losing consciousness, then everything blacked out. My brain seemed not to function anymore.
