Chapter Six I awoke to a curious rapping on my bedroom window, a plink, plink, plink. So steady and soft and melodious that I thought it was raining. I’ve always loved the rain. No rain, though. I looked out and saw a bright and sunny summer day. The big blue Texas sky had nary a cloud in sight. I smiled to see that—a day full of possibilities beginning. And then another sound hit the glass. I sat up in bed, startled. Plink. I went to the window and saw Iluna standing outside. Her left palm was filled with round little pebbles. With her right hand, she picked them up and hurled them at my window. Seeing her there on the side lawn was a pleasant surprise. I never expected to see her in the daytime. Yet there she stood, still wearing that immaculate white dress, and just as beautiful. S
