Chapter Fourteen The fair reached its zenith on the Fourth of July. It started with the month and lasted the rest of the summer, but it never got better or brighter than Independence Day. Aunt Marie and Uncle Neville were visiting, as were their three kids, and of course Grandma and Granddad. So we had a full house, but not quite as full as I would have liked. Mom and Dad wouldn’t be coming down. Mom hadn’t been well enough to make the trip, and it would hardly do to leave her all by herself on the Fourth of July, so she and Dad would enjoy a quiet, solitary holiday in New England.
