Well, we have a healthy baby boy, you must be happy, the doctor said to Daniel. I know most of us become quite excited when we know we are getting a baby boy. No, I'm not the father. Daniel corrected the doctor, Oh, I'm so sorry. He apologized, looking at both Daniel and Mara. Please forgive me, he added. Mara just smiled with the wish that it where true, she thought to herself, this is how my life should have been, i mean I do deserve a good person as well don't I ?, and then she said out loud its ok doctor we understand Daniel is a good friend who is just trying to support me and help me out thats all, but deep down she wished he was much more than a friend, she wished he could treat her as he treats his wife, she wished for the warm hugs, gentle kisses, kind words and most of all the consistent support of the husband that he was to Lila. But quickly she then dismissed the thought, thinking of how kind Lila was to her, how she had opened her home and shared not just her food but all she had in hope of helping her. A part of her felt guilt and shame knowing that this might be dangerous for her and hurtful for Lila, but the rest felt entitled to have what Lila had as if she had been waiting for this moment and wanted to make sure that her just found a comfortable life doesn't end. Thank you so much, doctor. We will be in touch, Daniel called out to the doctor as they were exiting the rooms, heading home. So how was your first doctor's visit? , excited Lila asked, looking to find a happy and excited response from Mara. It was ok, thanks for asking, responded Mara, you don't sound happy or excited, is something wrong with the baby. Mara quickly replied with no im just a bit tired thats all, but in her mind she was thinking about how she wanted this life to be hers, how she wished Daniel was the father of her child , how she wanted to have a baby room setup for the new baby and welcome him in a stable, safe, loving and calm environment but all she could do was lie so she could get Lila off her case by dismissing her. I understand pregnancy can be stressful, I hope both of you will have a restful night and feel better in the morning , Lila replied feeling the energy change, she noticed the dismissal and brushed it off, she thought maybe it was the pregnancy hormones. As the weeks went by and the baby bump kept on growing, Mara's clothes kept getting smaller and smaller. Lila suggested they go shopping for maternity clothing so she could be more comfortable. Mara agreed with no hesitation, according to her thoughts, she deserves this life and to be treated like a queen. As they were shopping Mara kept asking about Daniel and their relationship, she was interested in it , how beautiful it was but not out of just admiration, but envy and jealousy , those feelings were getting stronger and stronger, to Lila she was just her normal friend having a normal conversation with her about her life, she never imagined her friend could be developing such dangerous feelings towards her or her life . This is nice like old times, Lila said. Remember, when we used to go to school without anything, we survived that and lived a aimple life . I miss that , she said as she kept going on and on about her marriage and relationship to Daniel, how he has been a supportive husband, a great friend to her, and everything she needed. Without her knowing, she was affirming what was already observed by Mara, increasing her envious and jealous feelings by admiring her husband as if she mocked the situation, thought Mara. She was poring out her heart to her friend, whom she had not seen in a while. She is kind and gentle and naive, and this would undoubtedly be the ruin of her. Mara thought to herself why does she have this and i don't, why should i go through all this by myself yet im a good person as well, why is life so kind to her and not to me, this is so unfair i too should be treated as a queen, I too deserve a good man to come home to, she is not even that beautiful but she has everything ,Mara continues thinking that Lila doesn't deserve this. Let's get lunch I'm starving said Lila , im not hungry,replied Mara This time, Lila paid attention to the mood change and asked Are you okay?, She thought to herself, something is wrong, the doctor must have something or is it Mark again,I think she will tell me I won't want the baby to be in danger. I'm fine, "said Mara as she stood up to take her newly bought clothes. Mara began to look at Daniel differently she began to see him more than just Lilas friend, she fantasised about him and wished she could be Lila, she made up her that the friendship is not a priority more than her happiness she slownly began falling for Daniel, Lila began noticing little things her response, laughter when Daniel speaks, her dismisal tone when she speaks to her, she started to noticed Daniel changing his behavior as well, being more kind amd understanding towards her, did I miss something?, she thought to herself, am I too kind? , are they having an affair ? or am I being insecure? . Each doctor's appointment, I couldn't drive Mara Daniel gladly stepped in with no questions or excuses. He had helped Mara get a job in his firm, they would drive together in the morning and work at the same place she thought. I think I need to get to the bottom of this, but then again, she's my friend, and wouldn't betray me, .. She contined with her thoughts. The car drove down the driveway and then noticed how Daniel smiled at Mara .This look was too familiar. It was how Daniel looked at her , her eyes teared up, her body froze as he watched them walking towards the house, thinking she was not home, so he was shocked to see his wife, noticing how friendly he was with her, quickly he composed himself to greet her, she turned away towards the kitchen. The room was filled with tension, and the silence was too loud as Mara tried to pretend nothing was going on she asked is she upset ? , we didn't do anything.We just got home or maybe she had a bad day or something, "trying to excuse the fact that she wanted her best friend's husband.Maybe you're right, I'll go check on her. Daniel loved his wife deeply and didn't want to lose her, though he had been a little excited as they had been getting closer with Mara. Seeing his wife unhappy gave him a reality check.Mara smiled sneakily, knowing deep down that she wanted this to happen, but her smile quickly turned to a frown as she saw how upset Daniel was when his wife was not ok, she knew that this might be the end of their friendship, so she kept pretending , she might lose all of this new comfotable life , but she was willing to take that chance.
