CHAPTER 2

The eyes were framed a beautiful face, making me take in the most gorgeous man I've seen at this party. No scratch that, the most gorgeous man I've ever seen. I could only gape foolishly at him, blinking my eyes rapidly to see if it was a fluke or if my eyes were deceiving me. “Hey,” he smiled, his lips peeling back to reveal a pearly white set of teeth so stunning. “Uh, h-hi.” I stumbled out before my eyes widened. I've been in his arms for way longer than necessary. I scrambled out of his hands, kicking his knee in the process. Shoot. He flinched from the pain, and I was so mortified at my behavior that I wanted the earth to swallow me up. Only, I wasn't that lucky. “I'm so sorry!” I said, trying to pat the area. He moved away from my touch, probably so he didn't get maimed again. “It's okay. Good thing you weren't close to any vital areas.” I laughed nervously, tucking my brown hair behind my ear as I peeked at him. He was tall, very tall. Probably 6”2 or more. We stood there awkwardly, and in that moment I wished I could channel Amelia's carefree attitude. “Wanna get something to eat?” His eyes moved to the ground where the cups I carried earlier were rolling around. “Or drink?” “Sure.” I fell into step with him. “I'm Quinn, by the way.” “Quinn?” He rolled the word on his tongue. “That's-” “Yeah, I know,” I cut him off. “It's a pretty masculine name. I get a lot I was named after my grandfather.” He gently bumped me with his shoulder. “I was going to say it's a strong name, for a strong woman. I'm Dom.” I blushed, my cheeks going pink. “Nice to meet you, Dom.” “How come I've never seen you around?” he grabbed both cups and a burger before handing me one of each. “Thanks.” I bit into the burger, and the flavors all coexisted and blended perfectly. “I'm pretty much indoors. The only reason why I'm out here is because of my best friend. She forced me to attend.” “Cool.” he nodded to a couple of guys as we passed, but the weird thing? Some people stood up or bowed as we passed, almost in a differential manner. Creepy. “Why are you here?” “It's almost like a ritual for me. I can't not attend.” He chucked, and I joined in even if I didn't know why. Dom and I walked around one more time but I had to hang back when he was called away by some heavily built men. He apologized when he came back, before grabbing my hand to show to one of his ‘’favorite’ spots. It wasn't too close to the Square but far away that we could still have a bit of privacy. It was a wide expanse of grass up a higher slope of land that made it seem we were closer to the stars. I was apprehensive about being alone with him, but Don was the perfect gentleman. His hands didn't wander and he kept his distance. Dom appeared to be perfect. He was funny and respectful and he had a wicked sense of humor. Not to mention, he's easy on the eyes. Which was why when he moved towards me, to close the space between us, I didn't resist. He waited, hovering his face above mine while he searched my eyes as though seeking permission. A part of me wanted to say no, but another part that was more reckless due to the wine I'd consumed threw all caution to the wind. I tilted my head forward, giving him the consent he sought and my world exploded. Dom fused his lips to mine, and it felt like something clicked in my soul. A kaleidoscope of colors flashed through my closed lids as I fell deeper into the kiss. I moaned a little, reaching to hold onto Dom's wide shoulders while we ravaged each other's mouths. It was a perfect kiss. One in which our souls are connected. “Gosh, I've been wanting to do that since the first moment you fell into my arms.” He breathed against my lips, his eyes expressive. “Me too,” I whispered, cupping his cheek. He ran his fingers over my red, swollen lower lip and I couldn't resist. My tongue peeked out and I wrapped it around his finger, sucking gently. His eyes darkened with lust, and the atmosphere became ramped up with s****l tension. Unconsciously we both moved closer to each other, our lips inches apart. “Quinn, there you are!” Amelia's voice broke through our bubble, and I whirled around. Amelia's flushed face beamed up at me…but that was until she saw who was beside me. Her eyes went comically wide and she seemed to lose her train of thought. “Holy s**t! I never thought I was ever going to meet you!” She reached forward to grab his hand, practically hugging it. “Hi, I'm Amelia.” Why was she acting like he was a celebrity? Or was there something I didn't know? “Uh, nice to meet you.” Dom's words were a contrast to his expression. Amelia's excited eyes swung to me. “No wonder you've been AWOL!” She raised star-struck eyes at Dom. “You could have at least told me you met The Lukas Blackburn himself!” My brows furrowed in confusion. Lukas Blackburn? No, his name was Dom, right? I looked up to see Dom looking uncomfortable and sheepish, rubbing the back of his head. His expression looked too guilty to ignore Amelia's words. “Wait, is what she saying true?” I moved back a step when he took one towards me. “You're Lukas Blackburn?” He closed his eyes briefly, aware that the gig was up. “Yeah. My middle name is Dom…Lukas Dominic Blackburn.” I gasped. I could see Amelia watching us with interest but I felt too hurt to pay any attention to her. If what Dom, no Lukas was saying is true then… Lukas Blackburn was my mate.
