CHAPTER 9 MAUREEN After the training session, I stumbled back to my room like a zombie. My muscles were on fire. My back ached. My arms were dead. But my pride? Still very much alive. I dropped onto the bed for exactly five minutes before dragging myself to the bathroom. Hot water ran over my skin, doing little for the soreness, but it helped clear my head. Domenico might have trained me like I was his mortal enemy, but I survived. No tears. No quitting. I was beginning to crave the pain. Once dry, I opened my wardrobe. Matteo must’ve dropped off the “necessities” as promised. Sleek business suits, fitted dresses, heels that screamed power. My fingers grazed a black dress with a slit running up the side, the neckline plunging just enough to be indecent if I leaned too far forward.
