Many times Seraphina wondered why she was forced to attend these gatherings in the first place. While she was technically her father’s sole heir and therefore next in the line of succession, that hardly meant anything. Ethereals lived for hundreds of years and her father was only just approaching the start of his third century. In addition to that, she never did anything of note. Seraphina only appeared to look presentable, smile at the guests, and then she was banished back to her bedroom to stay out of the way until the next social gathering was announced. No one needed her to speak or hold weighty conversation, and Seraphina was uninterested in the bland posturing and shallow remarks that peppered every other dialogue, and so she stopped bothering with them altogether.
