Once those words had been said, the darkness receded instantly as if it had never been there in the first place. Seraphina blinked away the spots of light dancing in her field of vision and found herself sitting on the floor, her arms still raised as if to defend herself from an invisible foe. King Caligo for his part was still seated at his chair, looking as if he had never left it at all. He smirked at her and gestured to her nearly empty plate of food.
“Eat up, my princess,” Alios told her, his sweet words belying his true intentions. “Tomorrow I plan on showing you around the palace and introducing you to my inner circle, so be prepared for me.”
Seraphina swallowed hard, her appetite having fled the moment the darkness had swarmed. “I’m not hungry any more.”
