Prelude

149 Words
I find myself lost in the woods. I have been wandering for several hours now. My legs are starting to cramp. I have scratches across my face and bare arms. My knee is bruised and a little swollen, from tripping on a root about an hour ago. My beautiful dress is torn, almost to shreds. Judging by the dirt and forest debris I see on what’s left of my clothes and arms, I would guess my face looks frightful! My curly light brown hair has mostly fallen out of the updo it was in for the party. I wish I could stop and rest. My body is screaming at me to just lay down and sleep. But I can’t. Some unseen force is urging me forward. I feel like something is herding me to an unknown destination. Like something or someone is expecting me, and I’m late.
