Blood Will Out
Arinwyn continued screaming for what felt like forever as the pain of Numarin’s remembered death and the transfer of his power ripped through her. The darkness surrounding her slipped away as it consumed her. She was lost in her own agony, until a faint voice caught her attention. It was muffled and distant, as though she were hearing it from underwater. She flung herself toward it unthinking.
Her eyes snapped open as she regained consciousness. She winced as a ragged scream filled her ears until she realized the voice was her own. Nasir loomed over her, pinning her shoulders to the ground. His expression was grave with concern. Arinwyn cut the scream short and found herself gasping for breath.
