Chapter 6 – Play A Game

“Good morning!” James greeted him with a grin, giving his best friend and business partner a cup of coffee. “Thanks, but what are you doing here?” Neil asked, taking the cup and sipping the drink. He glanced at the staircase, thinking of not going to the office. Yesterday was hell for him, and he regretted giving Brianna a second chance. Not Brianna, he thought. Robert’s daughter obviously didn’t like to return to Theresa’s old office. “Waiting for Lily. The doll wants to meet Brianna. She’s excited to meet her,” James answered, nudging his head toward the counter and pointing at their other business partner as she paid for the pastries. “You think she’ll come to the office today?” Neil was about to say no, but his eyes caught Elaine descending the stairs. His eyes narrowed, following the assistant of his assistant. It would have been better if Elaine had worked for him instead of Brianna. He could have accomplished more in the business his mother left. “She’s in the office,” Neil answered, sure of his answer when he saw Elaine descending the stairs. “I’ll check on the witch.” Not waiting for James’ answer, he turned his back on him and walked toward the stairs. Elaine nodded briefly, giving him a half smile when they met, but that was only it. She didn’t say anything. She walked past him and advanced toward the counter. Since his mother’s death, going to her old office never scared him, but with Brianna inside, he was terrified of what she would do. He breathed hard before opening the door, expecting her to be at the executive table. Brianna wasn’t there. His assistant was on the couch, eyeing the receipt she was holding and putting it on the pile of papers with the same description. With the way she moves, she will be done sorting the papers next year. “Good morning, handsome!” greeted Brianna, glancing at him and returning her eyes to the paper. “Good morning,” he said, heading to his table and hoping he could finish checking the sales report without getting distracted. As he turned on his computer, he turned his head to the couch. His brows furrowed, suddenly curious that his sexy and alluring assistant was wearing a white button-down shirt, a black pencil-cut skirt, and black high-heeled sandals showing her toes. He cleared his throat, heaving a deep sigh and returning his eyes to his computer screen. He didn’t have a foot fetish, but suddenly, he was turned on to see her toes. A slight chuckle escaped his mouth, amused at the oddity of the moment. Blinking, he shifted his focus, forcing himself to concentrate on the spreadsheet. “Something funny?” Brianna asked. “Do I look weird to you?” Neil raised his head, surprised to see Brianna at the table. “Nope,” he muttered, shaking his head briefly but pressing his lips together and nodding. “Yep. What’s your drama today? You look decent.” He thought Brianna would be insulted, but she didn’t. Instead of pouting or bickering, a sweet smile flashed across her lips. “I’m pretending to be a seductive and evil secretary,” Brianna said, winking at him. Neil parted his lips to utter an insult, but before words could escape his mouth, she had already pulled off the bun in her hair, and it cascaded down in waves, momentarily distracting him. Brianna locked her eyes on him, licking her bottom lips as she unbuttoned her shirt. She stopped at the third button, but it was enough to show her black lacy bra. She walked to the side, turning the executive chair, facing her, and leaning forward, lightly touching her lips on his while her hand brushed the crotch of his pants. “Lovely!” She chuckled, feeling his already rigid shaft. “Can I go sightseeing?” she joked. Neil grabbed her hand immediately, stopping her before she could touch the zipper of his pants. “You’re banned in this area. Whatever evil plans you have in mind, better stop it. I’m not interested in you.” Brianna scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Wrong words, Mr. Scott. You’re supposed to say you’re taken.” She narrowed her eyes, standing up straight and folding her arms as she thought. “Ah! You’re supposed to say you’re in a serious relationship.” “I am engaged if that’s what you want to hear.” “Then, let’s disengage you,” Brianna said, turning around and walking back to the couch. “Remember, Mr. Scott, I always get what I want,” she added. Before Neil could fire words, the door opened. Lily groaned as she entered the office. “It took me an eternity to buy my favorite cupcake,” she complained and hissed at James when he laughed. “Some lunatic bought half of the bread and pastries.” “Oh!” Brianna stood up, facing them. “Please, don’t blame Elaine. I’m that lunatic who asked her to buy a dozen or two of everything. The pastry chef told me they’d be making another batch today.” Lily pressed her lips tightly, her eyes wide, starstruck at the woman she had been following online. She swallowed hard and walked toward Brianna but stopped a foot away. Like James, her eyes were on Brianna’s half-opened blouse. Brianna followed their gaze and chuckled. “I forgot about this,” she said, closing the buttons. “Neil and I were playing a while ago.” “Playing?” Lily lifted a brow, turning her head to her business partner. She pressed her lips tightly, suppressing a laugh. “Can I join you?” James chuckled, licking his lips as he flickered his eyes on Neil, returning it immediately to Brianna. Brianna winked and mouthed, “Next time.” Neil cursed inwardly, standing up. “And why would you ask Elaine to do that?” “The sales have been kinda bad the past few months,” Brianna said, pouting and blinking adorably at him. “Did you -” Neil glowered, glancing at the computer and then returning his gaze to her. “Did you look at my computer?” The sexy smile on Brianna’s lips was replaced with a sneer. “I don’t need to peek in your file, Mr. Scott, to know what’s happening. The info’s from your staff.” “And what would she do with the bread? Throw them on the bridge?” He asked angrily, closing his eyes briefly as he thought of the wasted bread. “Umm…” Lily blinked, glancing at Neil and returning her eyes to Brianna. She slowly raised her hand as if to recite in a class. “Getting ahead of yourself, huh?” Brianna pursed her lips, hurt at his accusation. “Elaine will do that only if hungry children are under the bridge, Mr. Scott.” Lily cleared her throat. “She’s right. Manuel said they’re for the orphanage down the street.” “Who’s Manuel?” Neil snapped, hating that Lily had to intervene in his conversation with his assistant. “Your pastry chef!” Lily and Brianna muttered simultaneously. Brianna scoffed, rolling her eyes, and murmured, “Your grace, no wonder the sales are plummeting. You don’t even know the names of your people.” She turned to Lily and smiled, extending her hand. “I’m the assistant. Call me Brianna.” “I know,” Lily muttered excitedly, shaking hands with her. “Oh, my God, your hand’s so soft.” “Oh, please,” Brianna chuckled. “They might think my hand’s a jello.” “Lily. The business partner.” She breathed, placing her palms on her chest. Her body jolted, surprised when James put his arm around her shoulders. “Just in case she faints,” James grinned. “She’s your top fan.” Brianna wrinkled her nose and shook her head. “Don’t be a top fan. Let’s be friends.” Lily gasped, her face crimson. “Of course!” she muttered excitedly. “Wanna grab a lunch later?” “Lunch?” Brianna lifted a brow. “Are we kids?” She shook her head. “Let’s go clubbing.” She looked at James, waggling her eyebrows. “Wanna come? We can play later if you like,” she muttered in a sexy voice.
