Chapter 4

I stared at the two women as they draped in tears like siblings who had been kidnapped by bandits. I could see from within that my mother was up to something. Whatever it was, I can't fathom. But then, my instincts never fail me. " You're going to be okay and well", my mum assured her. I sat beside them and heaved a sigh. After a while, the doctor came in and announced Lypha's discharge together with her baby. My mother got our house ready and took the poor woman in. I saw my young self touching baby Lyca's hair like a big brother that I was. I placed my hand on my chest and it beat faster. I guess it started since the day I'd set my eyes on Lyca. She was just too pretty to be looked at only once. " Travis, say hi to your baby sister, Lyca", my mum had said. " Hi, baby sister....you are so pretty", I said. The two women smiled at me as they were rest assured that I wouldn't cause any problems for the baby. It was quite obvious that I like baby Lyca. That was how Lyca and her mother whom Modessa introduced as her younger sister grew up in my father's house. If my father was alive, I bet he wouldn't have allowed her keep Lypha and Lyca in the house. One fateful day, Modessa and Lypha had a misunderstanding. I was only seven and I heard their loud voices clearly now. I'm sure I couldn't when it really happened. Before I could rush to the scene, I saw my mum zoom out in anger. Then, I hurried to Lypha. She was furious. Then, I wondered. What could have happened between the two sweet women? But then, I had no clue. I saw Lypha unlock Modessa's sacred library where I smuggled in today. She picked a book from the shelf and opened it. Then, she tore the first page and began to write something on it. Looking at the book I held in my hand, it was the same. The book from which the bright light shone, it was that same book. Everything began to make real sense to me. Slowly, the pieces of my puzzle was falling into place. As she wrote, I saw tears drop on the paper. What could Modessa have done to her? That woman is really something else. Soon, she finished writing and placed it inside the book. Then I saw her eyes turn purple. I shook sigh fear. " Come on, Travis...she can't even see you", a voice in my head spoke. Of course! I had no reason to be scared. Suddenly, I saw her front teeth grow longer than usual. Her hair sprouted like leaves from a fig tree. Then, a tail emerged from her backside. I nearly fainted. " What is happening to Lypha?", I asked myself. I saw the woman slowly and painfully transform into a creature I dreaded with passion. She stood on her toes and roared. She had turned into a full grown werewolf. " No way!" I screamed. Thank goodness! no one could hear or see me. " All along, she was an animal?", I asked myself. Lypha opened her mouth and spit some gaseous substance into the book. I guess it was on the page where she had written the note. Then, she spoke... " Lypha, get into my body and control me. I have no rights to his body but you. Lead me to King Manda who attempted to kill me and my unborn child. I'm thirsty for revenge. Let me your tool, possess me". I stood there shocked and unable to move my legs. My eyes had seen what they had never seen in their entire lives. Then, I saw Lypha return the book to the shelf at the exact spot where I had picked it. Immediately she did, Lypha slumped to the ground. Her eyes turned to normal while her body transformed to human; the same beautiful woman I had seen from the beginning of my adventure. She was a shape shifter and from my little knowledge on shape shifters, they were usually merciless. With that thought, Lyca popped up in my mind at once and my eyes widened. "If Lypha is a shape shifter, does that imply that..." I held my mouth tight. Those words cannot come out of my mouth. Besides, it could be untrue. I saw blue blood come out of Lypha's body on the floor. I raised my feet to move but something held me. How could I forget again that I was invisible? Lypha bled to death right before my eyes and I began to figure out what had transpired between her and my mother. Her actions were in no doubt spurred by my mum. I saw her body slowly vanish into thin air like smoke. My mouth let open. Just then, I had footsteps in my mum's bedroom. My heart began to race faster. If Modessa gets me red handed, what will I do? Moreover, the last time she spoke to me, there was a deep certainty in my heart that I was been warned. " Travis?", I heard her voice fly from the bedroom right into my eardrums. It was Lyca! Immediately, I closed the book and rushed to return it. As I placed my hand on the shelf and tried to push it among other books, I felt it hanging. Then, I realized that three hands were holding the book. I turned around slowly and behold! Lyca... Before I could say a thing, she snatched the book away and opened it. " Lyca! You can't read that", Modessa's voice echoed through the library. I don't know how she got in but I was glad she did. " Are you hiding something from me?", Lyca asked. " It's for your good. Lyca, you can't read that", Modessa lowered her voice. Lyca turned to me and I nodded my head. She can cackled. I thought she would heed to Modessa's warning until she opened the book again and read...
