"Chloe's POV
“She requested my help with her academic assignments.” Ken lied smoothly.
I almost choked on the marshmallows when I heard his lie. Seriously? Despite the fact that I obviously restrained myself, I had the urge to scream at him.
"Academic assignment? This morning?” Mother enquired.
"Yeah.” Ken turned to look at me. "Right, sis?"
I didn't respond and instead returned my focus to the food in front of me.
“Ken, pay attention to your own school work considering that you're attending college soon.” dad said.
Ken's acceptance to college made my heart leap for joy. It's like a dream come true for me. When he is gone, I'll have the house all to myself so there won't be any more of what he does to me.
"Dad, I really don't want to start college right now; maybe after a few weeks." Ken began, I knew it was because he wants to have more time to deal with me and not because he will be homesick or whatever lie he will come up with.
“And Why is that? You have been around for a long time since you came back from boarding school, certainly you must be bored of staying here already.” Dad said, he had a suspicious look on his face.
"I must take care of something crucial first," he said. As he spoke, he cast a sidelong glance at me. I averted my eyes immediately as a lump formed in my throat.
“That's absurd,” Mother cut in.
"Let me help you pack everything you need, and in no time you'll be prepared."
I looked at him and saw that he was staring at me with murderous intent; I ignored his look, but I could tell that he was upset that he wouldn't be near me as frequently as before.
I got up in a flash. “I have to leave before in late for school,"
“I'd like to drop you off,” said Mom.
I rubbed her cheeks. 'I can walk there, you need not worry yourself'
Ken gave me a snarl when I once more caught his attention. Although I was aware that he wanted us to be in the same vehicle, it will never be possible. The last time I entered a car with him, I regretted every second of the ride.
"Bye, Mom and Dad." After exclaiming with joy, I grabbed my bag.
I went outside and toward the gate after approaching the front door. Fortunately, it only takes me 10 to 15 minutes to walk to school.
In every situation, there is always a reason to be happy, and I am grateful that I at least have parents, I thought as I ran along the sidewalks.
At the age of just 4, I was abandoned in the orphanage house. The incident is clearly in my memory. My father dropped me off and said he would go get my favorite cotton candy for me, but he never returned and so was my candy.
Since I spent my earliest memories of life there, I eventually grew accustomed to being there. I was prepared to be adopted at age seven into a loving family, but the opposite happened.
I had seven years in which I took on the personas of Chloe Hart, Chloe Jenner, Chloe Mckenzie, Chloe North, and Chloe Collen. In my entire life, those were the worst years.
When the Collen family abandoned me again in the orphanage when I was 14 years old, the guardians decided that when I turn 15 I will no longer live there because it is obvious that I am a burden.
A nice couple came looking for a teenage girl child a few months before my fifteenth birthday, and I felt as though I had struck lucky.
I was taken because they claimed they needed another child because their only child was in a boarding school and they needed someone to shower their love and affection.
It seemed like the happiest time of my life, I was treated as if I were their biological child up until Ken returned from the boarding house and entered the picture.
I initially assumed he was merely attempting to get close to me because he wants to be friends, but I couldn't have been more mistaken. It makes me feel uneasy even when I consider it.
When I heard a honk from behind me and jumped in terror, I realized I had already arrived at the school gate. I made a U-turn and widened the path so the car could enter the school parking lot.
The most well-liked and, strangely enough, kindest girl in school, Rebecca Weston, was in the driver's seat. She blew me a kiss as she drove past me; I'll tell you everything about her later.
Before entering the school buildings, I grinned at her and looked around to see if my best friends were in the hallways.
"Chloe!” Someone yelled my name.
There is only one person who can do that, Mika, my best friend.
As soon as I turn around, she is running toward me and embracing me. Laughing, I tightly encircled her with my hands.
We disengaged from the hug with smiles . 'I really missed you,'
“I miss you more,” I said, meaning every word.
As we moved through the school hallways, she encircled me in her arms.
“How was your summer break?” I questioned her.
She stopped by my locker and leaned against it, “ The summer was the worst! I don't think any other summer can get any worse than this.”
“I'm going to venture a guess and say Jace is involved,”I said laughing
With a loud sigh, she exhaled. “I'd rather not have a younger brother.”
“You know what? I envy you a lot, you have only Ken and he is way older than you and wouldn't even have your time. How I wish I had an elder brother like Ken and not some nasty little brother like Jace.”
I softly laughed. “You're insane,”
“My middle name is crazy after all but I'm being honest here.”
Since I arrived at Concave High my freshman year, Mika and I have been best friends. She is the only person who is aware of my adoption; however, she is unaware of my other secrets.
In addition to being attractive and upbeat, she is a psychotic b***h. With small adorable features, cute blue eyes and short, brown hair, Miss Mika Hathaway can be called beautiful. She is also extremely smart; as a result, she never has issues with any of her teachers.
"I noticed you nearly got hit by Rebecca Dunlap’s car." She said opening her locker, and getting her books out.
“It was Rebecca Western’s car,” I retorted with an eye roll. She often confuses both of them.
"Who gives a damn? They behave in the same manner!”
“Thankfully, she gave me a signal, so I avoided being run over. It would have been a shame to get run over on your first day at senior highschool.”
“What were you thinking that you didn't notice that Rebecca was right behind you?” curious, she enquired.
"Nothing." There is nothing at all.” I responded hastily.
I got an odd look from her. “Is there anything you're keeping from me?”
I snorted insincere jeers. "Secrets? Mika, you are my best friend,I can't possibly keep a thing from you, even if I do, you'll notice it in a heartbeat.”
“I agree with you, I am your best friend,” she said shrugging.
Her childish voice made me smile.
I felt someone's hands on my back, I turned to see who it was.
“Jason, what did I just say about you hugging me like this?” I berated him in jest.
He grinned, moving away; “why? Is that a problem?”
I clasped my hands together. "The stupid girls at school who is in love with you will think we're dating, which is bad for me,"
“Yes, it's awfully bad.” Mika pretended to tremble.
“You are aware of what Monik did to Rose, right?”
“I'm not interested in learning about it,this is a new section so I better mind my own business.” I uttered.
Kelvin, a bothersome guy, approached and gave Jason a pat.
"Dude, Let's go!” He prompted Jason.
“I've got to go guys, I'll see you later.” he said, he kissed Mika on the cheeks and gave me a side hug and then he ran off.
Mika's face started to flush red, and I watched.
I cried out. "OMG! Do you like Jason?”
"No, I do not," She quickly answered.
"You do.” I spoke up.
"You cannot prove it."
“Mika, did you notice how__?”
As it was time for the first period, the bell interrupted me.
“We must hurry to class before the teacher reprimands us,” Mika said before rushing off.
I chuckled, thinking that she was merely dodging the question.
I sprinted after her. “Please wait up, Mika!”
We strolled to our first class, history, one of the most boring subjects I'm forced to offer.
We entered the classroom and sat in our normal places in the center of the class, we weren't at the back, it was where the majority of the popular students were seated.
As I watched the students file into the classroom, Mika kept chatting about her summer vacation.
“Something seems a bit strange, doesn't it?” I quizzed Mika.
“I realize now that I was wrong to accept his cookie,” she said then continued to describe her summer vacation,
"Not that at all,"
Her brows furrowed in thought. "What now?"
“The anticipation for this morning's History session is palpable.” I spoke quietly.
Mika surveyed the area. "Wow! Even the bad guy is attending class, something is definitely up.”
I whirled around to look at the person she was referring to. Tyler Weston I swiftly turned my head once our eyes locked.
"Do you think he wants to prank Mr.Maxwell?"
I gave a disapproving head shake, “I'm not sure; if he did that, this week would be spent in detention, I guess.”
“But we're talking about Tyler Weston, and we know he's capable of doing anything,”Mika continued.
With a sigh I said “Hopefully, he won't do anything foolish.”
Our history teacher, Mr. Maxwell, entered the classroom once again as the door opened.
“Hello, students.” he said, as he threw his briefcase upon the desk.
“Hello, Mr. Maxwell.” The group of students responded fervently.
With the way, they responded, I knew Mr. Maxwell was in big trouble
After pulling out his books, he sat down in the chair. Strangely nothing took place.
As soon as he rested on the chair, the chair snapped, and he instantly collapsed to the ground.
Laughter erupted over the entire class.
Angrily rising, he asked “Who among you scum did this?!”
His books and desk were immediately covered in cheese that fell on him as he said that.
Tyler was laughing aloud in the back, and I could tell because of the volume.
