Book One: Chapter 2

1968 Words
Kal/Shadow was running fast through the woods lost in the sounds and smells of the wilderness, then he spotted her out of the corner of his eye. Her fur was crimson red, eyes a beautiful gold, and she was just as big as him. He had never seen a she-wolf as large as her. Most were small of stature like their human counterparts. She ran up next to him nudging him playfully as to say “ha I caught up” his wolf was smiling and he could feel the love he had for the wolf. He felt the tingling of the mate bond as their fur rubbed against one another. This wolf was his other half and he felt a peace within himself that he hadn't felt in a long time. He watched as she sprinted forward taking the lead then just as suddenly as she was next to him she was 25 yards away. She was laying on the ground helpless, a shadowy figure on the ground beside her with his head buried in the fur lining her neck, and then his face lifted making eye contact with Kal/Shadow blood dripping from his fangs. He tried to move towards her but was stuck where he stood, frozen in place. He had no understanding of how he was fixed in one spot and why he couldn't get to her. He had to watch as the mans head went back to the crimson wolfs neck and he saw the life drain from her eyes. His mate was dead and he let out a huge howl at the moon. Kal sprung up in bed, drenched in sweat, and confused because the dream felt so real yet here he was safely in his bed. Who was that wolf? He had never had such a dream before, perhaps it was a sign that he would soon find her. He quickly made his way into the bathroom to splash some cold water on his face and calm himself. Then made his way over to the balcony opening the door to let in a breeze, he needed to cool off after such an intense dream, and that’s when he heard a commotion coming from outside. Stepping to the railing and looking over he saw a girl surrounded by three of his guards. They charged at her all at once but she somehow managed to jump high enough and do a backflip away from them. Two of them collided with each other and he had to admit it made him laugh on the inside. He made a mental note he needed to train his guards better. They were only omegas so they weren't as expertly trained as his warriors and that's why they were tasked with guarding the pack house and not the borders or outlying territory. Omega's were the last line of defense if somehow, which rarely happened, vampires or rogues managed to get through his warriors around the border. She was an amazing fighter he thought to himself. He couldn't get the best look at her while she was moving around so quickly. She was agile and quick. His wolf, Shadow, was begging to be let out but he wasn't quite sure why. She landed several punches and kicks before finally being subdued with a shot of wolfsbane. Two of the guards grabbed her one by each arm and started pulling her towards the pack house while the other discarded the needle. They were taking her to see Ralph, she was a rogue after all, and he would get the answers they needed to protect the pack. He went back inside after seeing the intruder was taken care of and decided to start getting ready for the day. Kal knew he needed a shower to remove all the sweat from his body and try to clear his mind from the dream that was still fresh in his mind. Once he was dressed, he headed downstairs towards the kitchen to grab some food before heading to his office, but as soon as his foot hit the first floor his wolf pulled him to a halt not allowing him to take a step farther. It was unlike Shadow to take such control of his body like that. Lifting his nose in the air he picked up the faintest scent of lilacs. A strange sensation took over his body and he started walking towards the basement. He never goes down there, Ralph takes care of his business down there, and then comes to report any findings to him in his office. Shadow was pushing him to follow the scent into the basement and Kal couldn't help but listen as if his body was on autopilot. Kal opened the door and the smell of lilacs hit him like a tone of bricks. Invading every cell in his body and intoxicating him like his own personal drug he followed the scent down the stairs. Kal walked past several doors and stopped in front of the last one on the left. He had no logical reason to be down there or at that specific door but something was pulling him with what felt like an invisible rope Tugging him in the right direction. As soon as he opened the door and saw her up close and personal with his eyes he knew why he had been led here. The intruder his guards had caught, the rogue wolf caught stealing from his pack, she was his mate. Ralph raised his hand to hit her and Kal raced over to stop him before he was able to make contact, grabbing his wrist mid air, and releasing a large growl from his chest. Trinity heard a loud bang and saw the man who was just inflicting pain on her against a wall with the same hand now around his throat. Instant Karma, she thought as she heard the damage from being slammed against the wall with such force. She couldn’t see any blood or really him at all. All she could see was a tall muscular back at that point until the god himself turned back around using his wolfs speed to unhook her from the chair and IV. He easily lifted her from the chair as if she weighed nothing, a arm hooked under her legs, and the other around her back. He smelled amazing, like a cool breeze against an ocean current and she realized it was the same as the one when she was out by the peach tree. It filled her with sense of calm and her body instantly relaxed once she was in his arms. All the tension from being held captive and tortured washed away. She involuntarily, against her instincts, nuzzled against his chest and finally felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time… safe. With that she and her wolf feeling all the anxiety and anger she had been bottling up over the past several years leave her body she passed out in his arms. “If you ever lay a hand on my mate again I’ll rip your throat out,” he growled towards the man stumbling to his feet. “I didn’t know sir,” he replied bowing his head as Kal exits carrying his hurt mate in his arms. He takes her right up to his room and attempts to lay her on the bed so he can grab something to clean her wounds but as he does her hand grabs a fistful of his shirt as if pleading with him not to leave her. She is fast asleep though perhaps its her wolves way of communicating with him. It's not as if he wants to let her go but he wants to clean the wounds from Ralph and let her rest and begin to heal. He decides to oblige his mates silent pleas not to let her go and while still carrying her in his arms he awkwardly reaches into a drawer and pulls out one of his T-shirts. Making his way back over to the bed he lays her down but she clenches his shirt again as he tries to pull away. “I’m not going anywhere my love,” he whispers in her ear and she lets go finally relaxing back into the bed. Kal looks her up and down and growls as he takes in the damage inflicted by Ralph noticing the cut on her arm and hole in her jeans with large round circle of blood. He had given Ralph free reign to do what was needed to get information out of anyone caught in their territory without permission but seeing his mate hurt because of him did not settle well with him. Laying the tshirt on the bed next to her he started by taking off her boots and socks and tossing them in the trash. Her shoes were broken and falling apart, he would get her some new ones tomorrow. Next he removed her shirt, again tossing it in the trash because it was all tattered and torn. He couldn’t help but admire her body as he undressed her. She had an amazing rack and an a** he couldn’t wait to get his hands on. Pushing the desire he and his wolf were feeling after thinking about his hand coming down on her bottom with a firm slap he slipped the T-shirt over head letting it rest just above her waist. Unbuttoning and zipping the jeans she was in he slipped his fingers under the waistband on each side to pull them off. As he started to pull them down he found that there was nothing underneath. He wasn’t surprised to take off her shirt and not see a bra underneath she didn’t need to wear one, everything was perky and just the right size to be free. To find that she also didn’t wear panties sent his desire for her into a frenzy and he had to pull himself back for a moment. Taking a few steps back from the bed he tried to calm his wolf as well as himself. A small whimper left her mouth after he put some distance between them. She and her wolf needed him close but it was taking everything in him not to have a taste of her, waking her from her slumber in what he considered to be the best way. He took a few moments to calm himself and after slipping his hand inside his pants to adjust himself Kal went back to pulling her jeans off. All of her clothes were stained and torn, he must get her some new clothes before they did anything else. He wondered how long she had been a rogue by the state of her clothing it had been a while. He pulled the T-shirt down over her a** and precious private area. Grabbing a small wash cloth he washes the blood from her arm and legs then pulls a blanket over her laying on top of it himself as to not fall into temptation. He kept to his word and stayed right next to her. Admiring the delicate features of her face tracing her jawline with his thumb his hand found its way to the back of her head where he gently pulled her hair from its tie. Her hair was a beautiful black with hints of a dark red throughout. He laid next to her just wondering how it had taken him so long to find her. Where had she been this whole time? Where was her family? So many questions filled his mind and between figuring out where to start with her when she woke up and admiring her beauty Kal ended up drifting into a deep sleep with her wrapped tightly in his arms.
