Chapter Two: Forbidden Flames

Aurora POV The heavy wooden door closed behind me with a final click that echoed through the luxurious guest room. I stood motionless in the center of the space, my heart still racing from the confrontation in the main hall. The fire in the hearth crackled softly, casting warm golden light across the massive bed and heavy velvet drapes, but it did nothing to warm the cold knot of tension twisting inside my chest. I pressed my palms to my face and tried to steady my breathing. This was supposed to be a straightforward political mating. A duty to secure the alliance between the Moonlight Pack and the Crystal Lake Pack. Nothing more. Instead, I had walked straight into a situation that felt like a trap slowly closing around me. Tristan’s words kept repeating in my mind, low and commanding. “I do not choose, Aurora. I take both.” The arrogance in his voice. The raw possession in his silver-grey eyes. The way he had looked at Jayden with such open hunger right in front of me. And Jayden the way he had stared back at Tristan with loyalty and desire, then at me with clear resentment. The history between them was obvious. Deep. Intimate. And now I was the outsider being forced into their world. I walked to the window and stared out at Crystal Lake. The water gleamed under the moonlight, calm and beautiful on the surface. A lie. Nothing here felt calm. Everything felt like a storm about to break. A soft knock sounded on the door. I straightened my shoulders and opened it. A young female servant bowed respectfully. “Luna Aurora, Alpha Tristan requests your presence for a private meeting in his quarters. He says it is important.” I nodded. “Tell him I will be there shortly.” She left. I changed quickly into a simple but elegant dark green tunic and black pants that allowed movement. I refused to appear fragile or decorative. I was Luna of the Moonlight Pack. I would face this with strength. When I reached Tristan’s private quarters, the door was already open. I stepped inside and stopped short. Tristan and Jayden were locked in a heated embrace. Tristan had Jayden pressed against the wall, one hand fisted in his dark hair, the other gripping his hip. Their mouths moved together in a fierce, possessive kiss. Jayden moaned softly into it, his hands clutching Tristan’s shoulders. The scene was raw, intimate, and undeniably s****l. The air was thick with their combined scents and the sound of their heavy breathing. I should have looked away. I should have left. Instead, I stood frozen, unable to tear my eyes away from the sight of them together. Tristan broke the kiss and turned his head toward me. His silver-grey eyes darkened with heat. “You came.” Jayden’s golden eyes met mine over Tristan’s shoulder. His cheeks were flushed, his breathing ragged. The jealousy and desire in his gaze made my stomach tighten in a strange way. I forced my voice to stay steady. “You asked for a meeting. I came to discuss the terms of this arrangement. Not to watch you with your lover.” Tristan released Jayden slowly and turned fully toward me. His shirt was open, revealing the hard lines of muscle and old battle scars. “This is part of the arrangement, Aurora. I told you I will not choose. Jayden has been mine for years. You will learn to accept that.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Accept that I am to be mated to a man who already has a partner? That I am to share my mate with another wolf? You ask too much.” Jayden stepped forward, his voice rough but steady. “She has a point, Tristan. This is not fair to her. She did not ask for any of this. She came here expecting one mate, not… us.” Tristan’s gaze shifted between us. The air in the room grew thicker, charged with something dangerous and electric. “Fair or not, the pact demands this alliance. And I have decided I want both of you. Your bodies. Your loyalty. Your submission.” The word “submission” sent a shiver down my spine. Part of me wanted to slap him. Another part a darker, more dangerous part wondered what it would feel like to give in to him, even for a moment. I took a step closer, refusing to back down. “You may mark me in three days because the alliance requires it. But do not expect me to fall into your bed willingly. I will fight you every step of the way.” Tristan’s lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile. He closed the distance between us until I could feel the heat from his body. “I look forward to it, Luna. The more you fight, the sweeter it will be when you finally surrender.” Jayden’s eyes flicked to Tristan, then to me. The jealousy in his gaze was raw. He wanted Tristan. He had him for years. And now I was here, threatening that bond. But there was something else in his eyes too a flicker of reluctant curiosity as he looked at me. The three of us stood there, caught in a web of tension that made my skin prickle and my breath come faster. I could feel the pull between us, something primal and dangerous that I did not understand yet. Tristan reached out and brushed a strand of my silver-blonde hair behind my ear. The touch was light, but it sent electricity racing across my skin. “Rest tonight. Tomorrow we will talk more. The pack is watching. They need to see unity.” He turned and walked toward the door. Jayden followed, but not before giving me one last long look a look filled with conflict, desire, and warning. The door closed behind them. I sank onto the edge of the bed, heart pounding. My body was traitorous, still tingling from Tristan’s touch and the intensity of their presence. I pressed my thighs together, trying to ignore the ache building between them. This was supposed to be a simple political mating. Instead, I had walked into something far more complicated. Far more dangerous. And as I lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, I could not stop thinking about the way Tristan had looked at both of us. Like he already owned us. Like he would stop at nothing to make it true. I closed my eyes, but sleep did not come easily. The image of Tristan and Jayden together, the memory of Tristan’s hand on my chin, the heat in Jayden’s golden eyes it all swirled in my mind, leaving me restless and confused. Three days until the ceremony. Three days until everything changed. And I was terrified of how much I already wanted to know what would happen when it did.
