Chapter Twelve: Rising Tension

967 Words
What do you mean? Natasha looked so interested. Madam, it's a risky task that could cost my life. I am ready to pay for your support. The guard looked around and found out that someone was monitoring him. Madam, please, I don't have a chance and I can't tell you anything, the guard said as his voice trembled. Elena noticed something was wrong—the way the guard replied to her. Okay, I will be on my leave. Elena walked back inside her car and sat down, looking at the whole building, then drove off. Back at the prison. Morgan sat with the rest of the prisoners as they all looked at him. The boss of the prisoners walked straight down to Morgan, who was sitting alone. Now you are in prison, you gotta obey our rules or you will suffer. Morgan looked at him with a calm and smiling face. Is this how you do to welcome a new prisoner? The boss laughed hard. This is my home. I have been here more than fifteen years, so you can't just tell me what to do or what to say. Morgan clapped his hands. Nice one. I see you are capable of being the captain over here. He looked back and smiled. As he was about to fight, some officer stopped at the gate. "Your presence is needed," one of the officers said. How many times is his presence going to be needed, just in a day? Twice now. What about us? Are our presence not needed? The officers ignored him as Morgan walked with them to the visiting room. Erikson, Thompson, Ethan, Moscow, and Natasha all sat down, patiently waiting for him. He sat down with them as Erikson gave the officers eye contact, and they left them privately. "My son, are you really sure that you didn't kill the man? Maybe as a sign of revenge when you found out that he kidnapped your fiancée. Don't you trust your son anymore, Dad?" "This is not about whether I trust you. The question is, do they believe that you are innocent?” Dad, I have proof, and she is my evidence. Erikson looked at Natasha with cold eyes and a frown gaze. She can't be your evidence. Don't you have any solid proof? Thompson added. Why can't she be my proof? What's wrong with that? Everything is wrong with that. Can't you see, or are you blinded by love? Natasha took a deep breath with a calm voice. Sir, I am the witness, and I am ready to stand in court tomorrow as the evidence. Look, the system has its own way of operating. You can't bring someone that you said you went to rescue as evidence to the court, and mind you, this is a murder case, not just any case. How did you plan to win when you know your rival is already strategic? Then you also must be wise and strategic, Erikson stated. There was silence as they were just looking at each other. What about the lawyer? Have you seen a lawyer? Ethan broke the silence. Yes, I have called my lawyer; he will be here any time soon, Erikson said calmly. In no time, the lawyer was there. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,' the lawyer greeted. "Good morning to you," they all repeated. "Oh my God, Mr. Morgan, I can't believe you are really detained. So, everything they told us on the news was true." "Believe what you want to believe," Morgan said coldly. "Please, can you guys give me space? Let me discuss it with my client privately." Okay, they began to leave, starting from Ethan to Thompson to Erikson, as Moscow was about to leave. Morgan stopped him. "Hold on, Moscow, we have something to discuss." Then it was finally Natasha's turn to leave. At this point, she didn't cry; she just remained strong and gave him a look that said everything is going to be alright. Morgan nodded his head and smiled as she left. "What about him? He should also give us some privacy," the lawyer told Morgan. "Hold on, he is leaving right away." Morgan stood up and whispered in Moscow's ear. "I want you to do me a big favour." "What is it?” Search for the security man who helped me to locate the building, and mind you, don't go to the company. Yes, boss. Moscow left while Morgan sat down on his seat. Before I continue, I want to ask you a question. What question do you want to ask me? Tell me only the truth, did you murder him? No, I didn't. What really happened that night? I was looking for Natasha, and I received a message from an unknown number. Morgan brought out his phone, and as he looked at the message, to his surprise, the message had already been deleted. The message was here, I'm sure about that. You made a mistake by not saving it. I didn't know it was going to reach this stage. What is your evidence right now? My girlfriend is my evidence. She is not strong evidence; I need solid evidence. I told my P.A. to search for the security man who led me to the place and also assisted me in releasing her. Where is he now? My P.A. has gone to search for him. * * * 'Elena drove her car to the security man's home after she received an address from someone who knew him. On getting there, she saw a young lady who was just coming back from work. "Excuse me," Elena walked close to her. "Is this Daniel Pickford's home?" "Yes, why did you ask?" "I want to see him. Is he in?" "Madam… I think someone took him.”
