The forest was quiet in the early morning light, the frost crunching softly beneath their boots as Bram and Aribella made their way out of the trees. He stayed close but not too close, matching her pace, watching her from the corner of his eye like he still wasn’t convinced she was real. Aribella hugged her coat tighter around herself. She was exhausted, cold, and still shaken from the dream… and from Kellan. But she wasn’t ready to talk about any of it. Not yet. “Bram,” she said softly. He looked at her immediately. “Aye?” “I want to talk. I do.” She rubbed her arms, breath fogging in the air. “But I need food first. And a shower. And about twelve hours of sleep.” Relief flickered across his face, small but real. “Of course. Whatever you need.” “And I need to call my dad,” she added.
