"I just want you to promise me one thing," I said, looking at him. He looked back. "Once your wounds are completely healed, I want you to promise me that you will never get yourself into trouble, even if it involves me."
He was quiet for a long while. I almost thought he was going to ignore my words entirely, from the look on his face.
"I can assure you I'll stay out of trouble," he finally said. "But when it comes to anything involving you, that I can't promise."
I knew he meant every word.
"By the way," he added, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly, "aren't siblings supposed to protect each other?"
Him saying 'siblings' and not 'Mates' made me laugh a little.
