ASH Three days earlier… Rain fell heavily washing over the field as though it could erase everything that had happened here. Most definitely it couldn't. At least, not in the way I saw it at the back of mind. In that way I was sure it couldn't. I grunted loudly trying to make my way out of the mess. The mud beneath my boots had turned crimson hours ago, and every step I took reminded me of the men we had lost. Lifeless bodies lay scattered across the valley, disappearing beneath the downpour. The battle was over and while it felt like we had won. All this certainly didn't feel like victory. I tightened my grip around my crossbow and forced myself to keep walking. Every movement sent a sharp stab of pain through my ribs where a rogue's silver stake had torn straight through my side.
