WREN The woman waited until another guard drifted toward the opposite side of the hall before speaking again. Her eyes stayed fixed on the bowl in front of her, though she wasn't eating anymore as she stirred the watery broth with a piece of bread that had already begun to dissolve in the bowl of whatever it was. "They tell everyone the disease appeared on its own," she murmured. "That it spread because of this or that." “What are you driving at?" I asked. She gave a quiet, humorless laugh.
