“I don’t understand, Boss. Why aren’t we interviewing him right away?” Donny asked.
“I was weighing things up and I think it’s better this way. I want his cooperation. On a practical level, I want him physically checked over as quickly as possible so we can get the results processed. That will take a while to do, so we’ll hardly be losing any time. Besides, from Laura Scott’s report, the boy claims to have woken this morning in the woodlands with no recollection of how he got there. It’s clear that he’s traumatised, and I believe he needs careful handling.”
“On the other hand, maybe that would make him easier to break and we would get a confession,” Donny suggests.
“It’s possible, but just as likely, he’d break down altogether. Either that, or else he may just clam up completely.
