The level of Don’s drunkenness is usually determined by the morning that follows. It’s not just the hangover, the hangovers had subsided so long ago that some days he barely feels it and no matter how bad it was he would be looking pristine and perfect in his office the next day. He knows he’s been drunk the night before by the feeling he gets in his stomach and the few seconds in the morning that follows where he can’t recall anything at all. The feeling is mostly nausea, the alcohol taking its toll on a usually empty stomach, sometimes a mix of guilt and heartache added to that which makes him want to drink even more.
