Grimoire Atelier's Convinience

2298 Words
『Grimoire Atelier』の**さ   Since the ship being on the shoreline was inflicting pain on me constantly like poison, I apologize to 『Grimoire Atelier』 and back upped by selecting a new coordinates from the map.   .『Grimoire Atelier』Memory Log { ·        ‘360’, ‘1885’ selected as autopilot destination. ·        It’s OK. }   It seems that the ship Grimoire Atelier can interact with me after an important activity that needs to be logged. It’s a bit inconvenient but I am thankful that the ship is somewhat sentient even if her response is limited, but I have to wonder, I wonder if the voice I had heard once in that dream like darkness was also hers or someone else.   I decide to disembark from『Grimoire Atelier』 by swimming towards the shore. I also did not forget to lower the rope ladder so that I can climb back to the ship, should the need arise.   The first thing I did was gather some provisions. Foods, mainly fruits like the coconut-like things just sitting idly by in the shoreline. Some nuts were also gathered from the nearby trees.   Next were some thick branches and twigs for fuel and should also be good for making arrows and other crafts that I might think of.   Since I can't make a lot of trips I had gathered all collected items near a shade. I will try making a raft to help me tow it back to the ship once I am done with the collection.   While the forest should have a good selection of food I decided not enter since I will surely die if I try to traverse the unknown unprepared and untrained.   But, it looks like I will die soon.   At a certain distance, I could make out an animal, it was standing in all four, its fur was grey and it was growling. Was it angry because I was in its turf? Or happy that they had a decent meal served in front of them? I did not want to know.   When dealing with such animals it is always wise not to run, as they will consider this a signal to give chase, but not in this case the beasts in front of me surely made the move the instant they saw that the rest of the pack has gathered completely.   I panicked and run towards the forest...   ‘Damn!’   I could have just gone to the open sea... but they would instantly cover the ground, dogs are good swimmers, I know, I have nine dogs in my own backyard and all of them good swimmers without me even teaching them, the only difference would be is that my dogs have not the slightest intention to nibble at my flesh, these guys pretty much what they are thinking.   In the forest, I thought at least the giant roots from the trees could slow their movements, but far from it, as this was their turf they easily traversed it without hassle making the distance between us shorter by the second.   "Damn..." out of breath and desperate I curse to myself. Looks like I am going to die... "I wish I was on the ship like right now!"   *Zoooomm   And just like that I was on the main deck of the 『Grimoire Atelier』 lying on my back.   .『Grimoire Atelier』Memory Log { ·        Skill RETURN to SHIP activated. ·        Are you OK Captain!? }   "…Thank you 『Grimoire Atelier』.  Yeah I’m fine thanks to you."   It would seem that thinking that I needed to get back to the ship activated the RETURN to SHIP skill. This was listed in the ships skills and I should have remembered it but since I panicked I instantly forgot and almost cost me my life.   "Phew..."   Sensing that I was far from danger, I got up to my feet, I was staggering a bit since I was still nervous but I should be fine after a while.   The place I was looking for was the shorelines, and yes they were there, their sense of smell must have told them that I have arrived at the direction of the beach for some reason unknown to them. I could tell that they were quite angry, thankfully there was a large body of water between us all they could do was growl at me.   Sadly the provisions I just gathered a while ago was also sitting where I have left it to run away from the wolf-like beasts, and to make it worst it would seem that the beasts were mocking me by nibbling on some of the fruits I have gathered.   'If you want to get them come back here and offer your head'   I feel those were their howls...   "Damn you!"   I was looking helplessly at the sight of the beasts eating the fruits.   ...but...   An amazing thing happened after a few minutes, the nuts, the fruits, the twigs, and branches disappeared in the beach and scattered on the deck.   I instantly checked the log.   .『Grimoire Atelier』Memory Log { ·        Passive Skill CARRY to SHIP activated. ·        Victory! }   For some reason I was under the impression that 『Grimoire Atelier』 was doing a victory pose.   "Damn I am so lucky to have you Grim-chan." I said it out loud so that even if she could not reply immediately she would definitely hear me.   "Hora!" I shouted at the beast who were confused at the disappearance of the items they had pillage a while ago, well technically speaking I was the one pillaging at their turf, but they shouldn't have tried to eat me or mock me.   "…Serves you right!" I laughed out loud.   Looks like Grim-chan is also cheering for me as the bells in the captains room chimed. You might be wondering why I had suddenly called her with this endearing pet name, well as she was helping me out a lot and she is basically looking out for me, I decided to call her more intimately. Grim-chan has helped me quite a lot this day. I really need to find a way for her to have other defenses so that she would not be so vulnerable to any danger.   If I was on my right head I would have left this Island and looked for a safer Island to train.  But for some reason, I could not get the feeling that If I run away from this fight, I will be running away from any other fights that I will encounter, the convenience of Grim-chan is imminent but, I feel that I shouldn't rely on her to run but to fight.   So instead of running away from it, I should instead face it, conquer it if I have to.   So I need a battle plan.   The beasts are not moving away from the beach, looks like they are more than determined and sure that I was not going to move away as if reading my intention.   "Let's see..." I thought out loud.   "Since they're gathered like a crowd maybe I should just blow them away."   I was thinking of blowing them using the cannon, it may be a little overkill but if it gets them away from the beach it was the best thing to do... But, after a while I decided against it.   For one, I should save those cannon balls for when I really need them, like a bigger threat. There is also the problem of procuring replacement, as long as I can't replace the cannonballs immediately, I should not waste it arbitrarily.   Second, if I win by that means, it would feel that it was Grim-chan's victory. It is not like I was admonishing her capabilities or the fact that she can easily help me. But, I also want to move by my own powers. I want to test where I can go by my own powers. If I don’t have any other options, then I will use it as a last resort.   But for now the only logical battle plan was...   *****   Back when I was still in the other side, nothing of such big scale battle was evident to me. After all the place and time I am living was a place plague by peace. So I can't use anything that would make a good battle plan   But, then remembered that I had played a lot of MMORPG games, and I always go solo, so when I wanted to level grind against slightly higher leveled monsters, I always do a certain strategy. Using skills with the longest ranged and hunt monsters from a safe distance.   Right, Cliff Sniping, this was a terminology in any MMORPG games that exploits cliffs where enemy attacks could not reach you no matter how strong or potent their attacks are.   Some gamers point this strategy as despicable. But, since my life is on the line I can’t be too picky with my methods here.   In my MMO days I always use a swordsman or assassin as my class and have their long ranged weapon skills to do a mimicry of the cliff sniping, this time around I am using a long ranged weapon to do the strategy and the place I am sniping from is no cliff, but the best next thing... no there might be no safer place to snipe. The 『Grimoire Atelier』Deck, Let's call it Deck Sniping.   Using the knife I found in the detachment room, I made also made some makeshift arrows from the branches and twigs I harvested from the island.   From the twigs' and branches' skin had scraped off I twined them to make ropes. Although, even if I don't fetch the arrows as long as they are within the safety range from the ship, I should not worry about losing them. But the roped-arrows have a different purpose aside from retrieval.   Instead of pointed arrowheads, I shaped the heads with spikes so that even if I can't kill them, the chances of the beasts dying from hemorrhage are big.   "Ok let the hunting begin."   The hunt began as I tied a twine at the tail of the arrow and sniped my first target and released.   *Fwush   It was off by a mile...   'What was that LOL'   For some reason the beasts looked like they were sneering at me.   "Just you wait."   And 2, 3, 4, 10, damn...   I have missed the targets and I seemed to have getting worse.   "Do you need talent for the skill?"   I need to hit. So I persevered. 11, 15, 20, 50, 100, shots and zero kill.   Thankfully, I had gotten used to it, my hands were scraped but it feels that I am able to hit them the next time I nock an arrow. Unfortunately night has fallen and visibility became poor so I decided to leave it for that. I went to my bed and slept.   Thankfully even though there was no hearth that could be used to heat the room, the temperature seemed to be regulated so that the cold outside could not penetrate. I gave another thanks to Grim-chan as I fell to a deep sleep.   …The next day.   It was to no surprise that the beasts were still there, they must have confidence that they will not be defeated by the likes of me...   "hehe." I am not the same man I am yesterday. The strategy was still cowardly, but I am taking steps to overcome it. And here is the first step.   "*の*も**から" [Journey of a Thousand Miles Starts with One Step]   *Fwosh   "Awk!"   It hit the target at the right chest. Without losing the momentum, I pulled the twine, the spike gouge some of the skin and blood spattered from the open wound. The beast taking injury ran immediately towards the forest.   The other wolf-like beasts panicked a little after hearing that their ally has been hit.     Without any hesitation I nocked another arrow in my bow. Concentrated, tried to read the wind, breathed slowly and...   *Fwosh   .『Grimoire Atelier』Memory Log { ·        Critical Hit! Killed GREYWOLF   ·        Collected 1 Earth Attribute Magic Core ·        First Blood Captain! }   "Yeah!" Looks like Grim-chan might have peered at some terminologies from my memories. (I mean First Blood, really?).   I also learned through the Memory Log that the wolf-like beasts are called GREYWOLVES. I made a mental note to check the Logs every now and then to get these kind of information.   Back to the battle, the remaining GREWOLVES were in disarray, but while they were in that situation, I continued my attacks.   By the end of the day, with the 11 hunted GREWOLVES, I have accumulated 6 Earth, 4 Wind, and 1 Void Magic Cores attribute.   With my haul, it should be safe to guess that even if they are the same GREWOLVES they can have different elemental attribute.   The next day, I hunted the same way. But, this time around I might have irked the ire of the GREWOLVES as more of them came. A total of 18 hunts and gathered 5 Water, 10 Earth and 3 Wind Magic Cores.   And...   For some reason, I had started to feel invigorated and felt that strength was surging from me. Confidence was also quite evident as I had become practiced with the bow.   "Alright, let us use this as a stepping stone. Let's give it our all!" I pumped myself up some more as I begun hunting for more of the GREYWOLVES.
