Chapter 7 – Between Loyalty and Desire

550 Words
The air inside the moonlit clearing was so tense it felt like the world itself was holding its breath. My pulse thundered in my ears, my heart torn between fear, fury, and something deeper—something I didn’t dare name. Kael’s growl rumbled low, primal, and possessive, as his body positioned itself in front of me like a shield. His broad shoulders blocked my view of the other two, but their scents—one sharp and electric, the other dark and intoxicating—wrapped around me like a trap I couldn’t escape. “Step. Away.” Kael’s voice was a dangerous whisper, the kind that promised blood. Alpha Raiden’s lips curved into a mocking smile, his black hair catching glints of silver under the moonlight. “Still playing the overprotective mate, Kael? Or are you afraid she might learn the truth?” His golden eyes flicked toward me, and the sheer confidence in his gaze made my knees tremble—not from fear, but from the undeniable pull between us. Beside him, Alpha Lucien’s gaze was colder, calculating, his stance deceptively relaxed as if he could end this fight before it began. “The bond doesn’t lie, Kael. She feels it with us too.” His words dripped with certainty, and I hated the way my heart stuttered in agreement. My fingers curled into my palms, nails biting into my skin. “Stop talking like I’m not here.” My voice cracked, but I forced the words out. “Whatever… whatever this is, it’s tearing me apart.” Kael’s hand found mine, gripping so tightly I felt the heat of his palm through my skin. “You don’t have to listen to them. You are mine. You’ve always been mine.” Raiden chuckled darkly. “Yours? Tell her, Kael—tell her why the bond doesn’t settle. Tell her why she dreams of us at night.” The words hit me like a storm, memories flashing—half-forgotten visions, sensations I couldn’t explain, dreams where the moonlight always revealed not one, but three figures standing at my side. My breath caught. “What… what are you talking about?” Lucien stepped forward, his movements smooth and deliberate, like a predator approaching its prey. His eyes never left mine. “Because you’re not bound to just one of us. The Moon Goddess marked you for all three. But only one can claim you completely.” The world tilted beneath me. I staggered back, my mind fighting to reject the truth, even as my body betrayed me with the quickening of my heartbeat at their nearness. Kael snarled, moving between us, his aura so powerful it made the air crackle. “She will choose me. I won’t let your lies confuse her.” Raiden’s grin widened, but it wasn’t friendly—it was a challenge. “We’ll see.” The three of them stood there, their power clashing like storm fronts, while I stood in the middle, my soul aching with a pull I didn’t understand. My heart screamed for Kael, but the shadows whispered of Raiden and Lucien, and the bond… oh, the bond felt like it might tear me apart before it let me choose. Somewhere deep inside, I knew—this wasn’t just about love. This was about survival.
