CHAPTER 5-THE BRIDGE AT SUNSET

259 Words
Chapter Five – The Bridge at Sunset The days in Florence unfolded like a dream—mornings in hidden cafés, afternoons wandering art galleries, evenings lingering over pasta in candlelit trattorias. But it was on their fourth evening that Ethan suggested they cross the Ponte Vecchio at sunset. The bridge was alive with the glow of shop windows and the soft chatter of tourists. Musicians played somewhere nearby, their notes carried on the breeze. The Arno shimmered beneath them, the sky above a canvas of rose and amber. Ethan stopped at the center, leaning against the railing. “Claire,” he said, voice lower than usual, “I’ve been thinking about how strange it is that one rainy day could change everything.” She met his gaze, the weight of his words settling warmly in her chest. “I’ve been thinking the same thing.” He pulled something from his pocket—a small folded piece of paper. Inside was a new sketch: the two of them standing side by side on this very bridge, the sky aflame behind them. “I started it before we even got here,” he admitted. “I guess… I was hoping this moment would happen.” Claire felt her throat tighten. Around them, the city pulsed with life, but the world narrowed to his eyes, his smile, the gentle brush of his hand over hers. As the sun dipped below the horizon, she realized the rain that had brought them together had never truly left—it had simply transformed into light.
