Oracle Justice

1019 Words
Lyra's Pov Magnus thinks I'm easy prey, and I'm about to teach him how wrong he is. The basement of the border station was dim and crumbling, concrete walls cracked with age and dampness. Dust hung in the air from the fight above. My heart pounded hard in my chest as Magnus and I circled each other slowly. His eyes were sharp. Mine burned with everything I had held back for years. "You have your mother's eyes," he said, voice smooth like poison. "She looked at me the same way before I killed her." The words hit hard, but I did not flinch. "She died protecting me. What are you dying for?" Magnus's face twisted with anger. "I am preserving the old ways. Oracles destabilize pack hierarchy. Your kind causes chaos." I kept moving, blade ready in my hand. "My kind brings peace. That is what terrifies you. Peace means you lose power." He lunged faster than I expected for someone his age. I dodged, my Oracle gift showing me the path of his strike a split second before it came. I slashed back, catching his arm. Blood welled up. He hissed in pain but kept coming. We fought, trading blows. I was outmatched in raw strength, but the gift gave me an edge. I landed hits where he did not expect them. Frustration grew in his eyes. "Clever girl," he growled. "But gifts do not make you a warrior." "No," I said, breathing hard. "Being the Beast's mate does." Theron appeared in the doorway, bloodied but victorious from the fight above. He saw me holding my own. Pride flashed across his face, mixed with raw terror. He wanted to step in. I could feel it through the bond, the urge to protect me overwhelming everything else. But he held back, giving me this moment. I stopped Theron when he stepped forward, ready to end it. "Wait." Theron’s voice was tight with barely controlled fury. "He killed your mother. He tried to kill you. He dies." "I know," I said. "But this is my justice. Not yours." Theron understood. He stepped back, giving me space, but his body stayed tense, ready to intervene. Magnus laughed. "You cannot do it. You are a healer. A peacemaker. Killing goes against your nature." "You are right," I said quietly. "It does." The Oracle gift surged inside me, stronger than ever. Flashes came fast. I saw Magnus's entire life. Every kill. Every conspiracy. Every evil act that kept him in power. I saw my mother's death in complete, painful detail. The way she fought, the way she begged for my life. The weight of it nearly brought me to my knees. I saw him ordering hits on children, on innocents, on anyone who threatened his power. Forty years of systematic murder. The weight crushed me, but it also clarified everything. Tears fell down my cheeks. "You have killed so many. Destroyed so many families." Magnus sneered. "And I would do it again. Oracles are abominations." My decision crystallized in that moment. "I am not killing you because I hate you. I am killing you because I love everyone you would hurt next." I moved with Oracle-given precision. Magnus tried to defend, but I saw every move before he made it. I disarmed him and pinned him down. My blade pressed against his throat. His final words were meant to break me. "Your mother screamed for you. Died crying your name." Instead, they strengthened me. "And I am living the life she died to give me. You failed." I killed him cleanly and quickly. Mercifully. Because I was better than him. Magnus's body went still. I stood over him, covered in his blood, shaking. A vision cleared. I saw the future changing. Peace rippling outward. My mother's prophecy is beginning to fulfill. But the cost sat heavy in my chest. Theron approached carefully. "Lyra..." I turned to him and broke. I collapsed into his arms, crying hard. I had killed someone. I could never undo it. Theron held me tight, one hand stroking my hair, the other gripping my waist like he could shield me from the weight of what I had done. "You did what had to be done. I have got you.” Back at the Continental Council Hall, we presented Magnus's body. The Council witnessed the evidence. Helena's confession, the financial trails, my Oracle visions. They voted. Magnus's crimes were confirmed. Posthumous stripping of honors. Investigations opened into all his past actions. How many deaths was he responsible for? I stood there exhausted and traumatized, but I stayed strong. Other Alphas regarded me with new respect. I was not just a Luna anymore. I was an Oracle warrior. Garrett gave Theron a quiet comment. "Your mate is terrifying." Theron’s pride was clear. "I know." Elena approached me later. "I misjudged you. You are stronger than I thought." "I had to be," I said. The journey back to the Northern Territory was quiet. I sat beside Theron, processing what I had done. He gave me space but stayed close, his hand occasionally brushing mine. In a private moment in our vehicle, I asked him, "Does it get easier? The killing?" Theron’s answer was honest. "No. If it does, you have lost your humanity." "I feel like I lost something today," I whispered, leaning against him. "You lost innocence," he said. "But you saved lives. That is the burden of power." I closed my eyes understanding what being Luna and Oracle really meant. Making impossible choices. Theron kissed the top of my head. "I love you. That has not changed. Will not ever change." "I love you too," I said. We were heading home, to safety, to healing. But I was changed fundamentally by what I had done. I'd killed my mother's murderer and avenged forty years of Oracle deaths, but as we crossed back into Northern Territory, my Oracle gift showed me one more vision: A woman's face I'd never seen, Theron's eyes, calling for help. His sister. The one everyone thought was dead. She was alive, and she was in danger.
