Lyra’s Pov
Three days of silence, and I'm done playing his game.
I tracked him through the estate. He was not in his office. Not in the training grounds. Not in his rooms. Damon finally told me where to find him. "Private gym. Third sublevel. But I would not—"
I ignored the warning and went anyway.
The private training facility was deep underground. When I pushed open the heavy door, the sound of violence filled the air. Theron was alone, shirtless, covered in sweat. Old scars marked his back and chest. He was destroying a training dummy with brutal efficiency, fists and claws tearing into it. Each strike carried raw rage. He did not notice me at first. He was lost in the violence, working out whatever demons chased him.
I watched him for a long moment. This was how he coped. Violence instead of feeling. Violence instead of me. "You cannot hide forever," I said.
Theron spun around, chest heaving. His eyes locked on me. "Get out."
"No."
He wiped sweat from his face. "I am not doing this now."
"Then when?" I stepped closer. "After another week of silence? Another month? Two years when the contract ends?"
"That's the point of the contract," he said, voice low. "We survive two years without destroying each other."
"You're destroying us by trying not to."
Theron's control cracked. He slammed his fist into the remains of the dummy. "What do you want from me? To admit I want you? Fine. I do. Every second. Constantly. It is torture being near you and not touching you."
"Then touch me."
"I cannot," he growled. "You do not understand what you do to me. My control is all I have left. You crack it and there is nothing underneath but violence and need."
I closed the distance. "I am not afraid of you."
"You should be," he said, backing away. "I am the man who slaughtered thirty wolves in one night. I am the Beast everyone fears. That does not just go away because you smile at me."
"I have seen you gentle," I replied. "In the forest. In moments when you forget to be the Beast."
"The forest was a mistake," he said. "I took advantage—"
"I wanted it," I cut in. "I wanted you. I still do."
Theron stared at me, breathing hard. The gym felt too small for everything between us. "You wanted comfort. An escape. Not me."
"I wanted my mate," I said. "I did not know it was you, but my wolf did. That is why the heat triggered. That is why the bond snapped so fast."
"Mate bonds are not perfect," he muttered. "They do not guarantee happiness."
"No. But they guarantee we are meant to try."
He sat down heavily on a bench, head in his hands. "I do not know how to be what you need."
I sat beside him. "Start by being honest."
Theron's shoulders shook. The words came out broken. "I watched my mother die. Held my father as he bled out. Searched for my sister's body for weeks and never found it. Everyone I love dies screaming."
It was the first time he had spoken about his family trauma. The pain in his voice made my eyes sting. "I became the monster to protect what is mine. And it worked. My pack is safe. Strong. Feared. But there is nothing soft left in me."
I covered his hand with mine. "That is not true."
He looked at our joined hands. "You make me want to be something I am not anymore."
"You make me want to be stronger than I ever thought I could be," I whispered. "Maybe we will complete each other."
The moment stretched. Something shifted. Theron's hand turned, gripping mine. "If I let myself have you, I will never let you go. Even after two years. Even if you want to leave."
"Then do not let me go."
His control fractured. He pulled me closer, hand at the back of my neck near the mark. "I will ruin you."
"I am already ruined. Be ruined with me."
His forehead rested against mine. Our breathing mixed. "Lyra..."
My name sounded like both a prayer and a curse.
Theron's last thread of control snapped completely. His mouth crashed into mine again, desperate and rough, like years of loneliness and grief poured out all at once. I kissed him back just as desperately, fingers digging into his shoulders. His hands moved everywhere, urgent but careful, sliding under my shirt, pulling it off in one motion. Cool air hit my skin, but his body heat chased it away immediately. He lifted me like I weighed nothing, my legs wrapping around his waist as he carried me out of the gym and down the short hall to his private rooms.
The door slammed shut behind us. He pressed me against it for a moment, mouth moving down my neck, teeth grazing the mark. I gasped at the sharp jolt of pleasure. My hands tugged at his shirt until he helped me pull it off. Skin against skin felt electric. His chest was hard and scarred, warm under my palms. He carried me to the bed and laid me down gently, but his eyes burned with need.
He stripped the rest of my clothes off slowly, eyes never leaving mine. "Last chance to run," he said, voice wrecked.
"I am done running," I whispered.
Theron came down over me, covering me completely. His weight felt perfect. Safe. Right. He kissed me again, slower this time, like he was memorizing every second. His hand slid between us, touching me until I was trembling and gasping against his mouth. When he finally pushed inside me, it was deep and steady. The stretch, the fullness, the heat of him made me cry out. He groaned low in his throat, forehead pressed to mine.
We moved together like we had been waiting for this our whole lives. His hips rolled slow at first, letting me adjust, then harder when I arched up to meet him. Every thrust sent waves of pleasure through me. I wrapped my legs tighter around him, nails digging into his back. He buried his face in my neck, breathing hard against the mark.
"Lyra," he growled, voice breaking. "Mine."
The bond flared between us, emotions mixing until I could not tell where mine ended and his began. Desperation. Need. Love. Fear. All of it poured into every movement. He shifted, pulling my leg higher, going deeper. I moaned his name, lost in the feeling of him. His hand found mine, fingers lacing together as he moved faster. The pleasure built higher and higher until it crashed over me. My body tightened around him, waves of release making me shake.
Theron followed right after, burying himself deep with a rough groan. He held me close as we came down, bodies still joined, breathing ragged. For a long moment, neither of us moved. He was actually shaking. I held him tighter, running my fingers through his damp hair.
"I have got you," I whispered.
His voice was broken against my neck. "I love you. God help me, I love you."
Tears filled my eyes. "I love you too."
We stayed tangled together, skin slick with sweat, hearts still racing. He rolled to the side but pulled me with him, keeping me close against his chest. His hand stroked my back gently, almost reverently. The mark on my neck throbbed warmly, the bond between us stronger than ever. For the first time since Mating Day, I felt truly whole.
We fell asleep wrapped around each other. I should have known happiness this complete could not last. Fate was not done destroying us yet.
