A Fight to Finish

Chapter 3

The week runs by quickly and it's Friday. Alysa's not in school because she has to help her mom out with something. So I'm all alone today. “Hey there, haven't seen you in a while” Leo says walking towards me, “hey” I say and walk past him. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gay, it's just for now it's ‘books before boys’ and the few ones I've managed to meet are stupid. I sit in calculus class and stare at my book. Mr Banks keeps talking before someone walks in. I look up and to my not so surprise, it's Nicole. “Boy, you're late” Me Banks says. “I know, lost track of time I guess” Nick says and everyone chuckles. “Try this next time and it's the principal's office” “sure thing, bruh” he says and walks in. I wonder why everyone including teachers are scared of him, they just give empty threats. Guess it's cause of how rich his family is. I roll my eyes and mutter “jerk”. “I heard that” a voice says beside me. I turn to face the blue eyes of Nicole Brookes Morgan sitting beside me. Can someone punish me another way. “Okay, so page 75 is your project and you have to partner up for it” Mr Banks says. “You're my partner” Nick says “ no one said so” I reply, “you don't have a choice” he says. That's it. I hate being bossed around and most especially by boys. “We'll see” I answer, “will you just agree to be my partner quietly or you want to attract attention”. He's right, attention is the last thing I want right now so I agree. “Fine” I huff. “I thought as much” he says and I grit my teeth. Boys! I hate a whole lot of them. The final bell rings and I pack my bag. I'm about to go out when a hand grabs me. My instincts kick in and I grasp the person's arm, twisting it and pinning them against the wall. “s**t! It's me” Nick groans. “Sorry” I say though I feel very happy. “Don't just grab people anyhow you feel like” he glares at me. “See you at my house tomorrow for the project” he adds. “What? why your house” I ask, “cause I said so” “f**k! I don't even know where your house is” “ find that out yourself” he says and stalks off leaving me in shock. “Ugh, I hate this dude, he's one of a kind” I say and leave the building. I enter my car and play ‘ocean eyes’ and drive home.

I yawn and check the time on my phone to see it's past 7 in the morning. Way too early for my liking. I lie down to go back to sleep when reality sinks in. I have a project to do with Nick today. “Damn it” I curse and go to have my bath. I finish and tie my matte black hair into a low bun. “Darling, come down here, you have a visitor” mom yells. ‘A visitor’ I think ‘who could it be’. I jog downstairs to meet mom. “You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend” mom says smiling, “what boyfriend” I ask and she points towards the dining. I go over and I see Nicole munching on roast potatoes and gravy with pork ribs. “What're you doing here” I ask him sitting down to eat my breakfast. “By the way, he's not my boyfriend” I tell mom. “I came to pick you up” he says. “How did you know where I live” “I followed you” “you know it's a right to follow a girl” “what's ever right to do” he says. We finish eating and Nick says we should leave. “You kids have fun alright” mom says. “Course ma'am and thanks for the meal, it was delicious” Nick tells her. “Sure, please call me Kate and be free to come around anytime” “sure thing Kate” he answers. What in the world is going on here. “We should leave now” I tell him. “Yeah and make sure to use protection, I don't wanna be a granny yet” mom says. “BYE!” I yell and shut the door. I see a white Porsche outside on the yard. “This is beautiful” I say and feel the car. “Car freak?” he asks me. “Don't blame me” I say and enter the car. “My mom seems to like you” I tell him. “Of course, I mean who wouldn't” he says and winks, “asshole” I mutter, “I heard that” “duh, you were supposed to” I say. He puts on the stereo and 'Water’ plays. I hum to the song while silence takes over us. We arrive at where I guess is Nick's house because he parks his car on the lawn. I step out and the view is amazing. Short carpet grasses on the lawn with tall bougainvilleas. I look up to see a huge mansion with a white oak door and a huge silver chandelier in the balcony. “Done staring” he asks me. “It's not a crime to admire things” I retort. We go inside and the view is more amazing. There are white sofas and a gold table I the middle of the living room. The huge chandelier hanging on the roof lights up everywhere. At a corner is a large stairwell leading up. A woman comes out dressed in a pink checkered gown and an apron. I guess she's the cook. “Hey ma'am” I say, “hey dear, please call me Tara. Would you kids like anything” she asks. “Just water” Nick says. “Let's go to the study” he says and we go there to do our project. Alysa calls me and we talk for a while before I hang up. “Who's that” he asks “nobody that concerns you” I fire. We finish our project in less than an hour. “Woah, that was hard” I say. “It wasn't” Nick answers. “It was but maybe it's cause you're smart. Don't deny it, you're a nerd” I say. “Stop” “what, it's true” I say “Tell anyone and I'll deal with you” he says, “cross my heart” I say with a mock pout. He orders pizza and we sit to watch ‘Vikings’. “We're your parents” I ask him. “Out of town for work” “oh” I nod. I check my phone to see it's past one. I tell him I want to get back home. He drops me off at home and when I go in, there's no one inside. I see a note ‘ ‘Dallas your father and I won't be back tonight. Use the money and order something to eat, XOXO’. I order Chinese rice and I decide to rest after eating when my phone beeps 'you're up for tonight’ - Chase. I enter my car and zoom off.
