Chapter 12

I walk through the hallways, heading to the bleachers, though I have notes to copy but I need to cool off. I still can't believe I was pregnant and I kinda feel bad that I lost it. “Girl” I hear Alysa calling, “hey” “I'm glad you're back to school” “me too, I missed you” “yeah, you didn't tell me you got hooked up with one of your gang guys” “I'm sorry” I say while sitting on the bleachers. “Why do you hide things from me” “I don't intend to” “then what, it seems like I'm the only one who's open here” she says sounding upset “look Lysa I don't have time for this” “they're many things I don't know about you, like which best friend would keep something like that from the other” I don't reply “if you don't need me you tell me” she says and I get angry. “You know what, fine, I don't need you plus why do you feel the need to know everything about me and for your information, I didn't hook up with anyone” I rant and regret immediately. “You don't need me right” I see her eyes water, “no Alysa, it's not like…” “fine I guess it's always been about you. You barely ever call, text or visit me, maybe you don't really need me and I'm sorry for always being there” she says and turns away. “Alysa wait, I'm sorry” I shout before she goes out of sight. I can't believe I've just lost my best friend and she's right, I've been so busy with my gang lately and I don't check up on her, I'm so selfish. “Hey pretty face” I turn to see Liam walking up to me, “hey Liam” “how're you feeling now” “better, can I ask you something” “shoot” “how did you guys know what happened to me” “Nick told us” “and how did he know” “he'd be very mad if I told you anything” “please Liam, just tell me, it's not like he's ever going to tell me anyways and I really need answers”. “Fine, but don't let him know” “promise” “well Nick's cousin Zack used to head the Mustangs before he was over thrown by Kayler, we do know a lot about the gang so he once mentioned they were planning to abduct a member of their rival gang and that was few days before you went missing. Nick just put the bits together and figured it out then he went to meet your gang about it. Why didn't you tell us you were in a gang anyway” “personal reasons. Why would Nick do that” “I'd rather you ask him yourself” he says and I nod. We hear the bell for break rings and we go to the cafeteria together. We sit at my usual table with the rest of his crew. I look for Alysa and see her seated with Jordan and the football jocks. I feel bad that I can't even eat. “Why's your friend not here” Leo asks “we had a fight, I told her things I shouldn't have” “oh” he says. “Nick, I really appreciate what you did for me, thanks” I say and mentally slap myself for forgetting Liam's warning so soon. Liam glares at me and Nick stiffens, “who told her” Nicole asks angrily. I try to explain but Liam cuts in “I did, I'm sorry” “f**k you man” he says and bursts out of the cafeteria. Okay, in less than an hour, I've made two people angry. “Come on D, you promised” Liam says and walks up. Okay, make that 3 people, but the only person I care about is Alysa, the rest can wait.

After school I go to Nick's car to talk to him but as I draw closer, I see he's perfectly fine cause he's making out with a girl. I change my mind and go home. I tell mom what happened between me and Lysa. “Alysa's a very good friend, you've been friends since 2nd grade and you shouldn't lose her else you won't find another like her” she says and I know what to do, I drive to Alysa's house.
