A Fight to Finish

Chapter 16

The alarm on my phone rings and I wake up lazily. I didn't sleep well cause of 'you know who’. I see a clean white hoodie folded neatly on the other side of my bed. I rub my eyes and go to have my bath. I put on the jeans I wore yesterday and the hoodie. I comb my hair and pack it in a ponytail, wear my sneakers and jog downstairs. I see a woman talking to Nicole and he looks just like her so I'm guessing it's his mom. I stare at him and he locks eyes with me buy quickly turns away. “Good morning ma'am” I say to the her. “Good morning dear, please call me Hailey and you are” “Dallas” “nice to meet you” she says and hugs me. She leaves both of us but not after winking at Nick and the silence afterwards is very awkward. “Breakfast is ready” he says and turns away. I go to the dining and sit down next to his mom. “Good morning sir” I try to be polite as possible “morning my dear, please just call me Brookes” “I'm Dallas” I say “you're welcome here anytime” he says and I nod. We finish breakfast and I help to clear the table. While in the kitchen, Hailey tells me “Nick is a very good boy, he's just trying to let go of his past and move on. I know you really make him happy, please take care of my boy for me” “sure” I say awkwardly and go out. Nick borrows his dad's SUV since we're quite many and I call shot gun first. He and the guys talk about random stuff and I just stare out the window. Once in awhile, I notice he steals a glance at me. We get to school and the boys hurry out to meet with their girls, I get out last with Nick. I walk fast into the hallways and meet with Alysa. I tell her everything that took place last night and she's almost screaming. “Wow girl, I'm so happy for you” she squeals “can't say same here” “but you were mean to the poor guy” “what do you want me to do, I can't trust people so easily not since what happened to me” “that's true” she nods and the bell rings for classes.

After school, I look for Nick to drive me home since the boys have left in Leo's brother's car, I search for him everywhere. About 30 minutes later, he sees me and walks towards me. “Dallas, I've been looking for you everywhere” “same here, could you drop me off at the gym, I wanna work out” “sure”. It's really been long time since I came here and I'm up for tonight. I come here when I'm angry and use the boxing bag to vent my anger. I take off the hoodie since I'm wearing a sports bra. I use the treadmill, do twenty push-ups, thirty sit-ups and press-ups then I punch the boxing bag with gloves I found at the gym. I punch till I'm exhausted and covered in sweat, I lie down on the ground to rest. “Nice job” Nick says. He drives me home and hands me the groceries I bought last night before leaving and I go to shower. I don't eat much since I'm fighting in a few hours time, I take cereal. I grab my usual black hoodie, mask, hand wraps put in my car and drive off. I enter the building and meet Chase “sure you ready for tonight” “yeah, need to cool off” “okay” and I go to change up. When I hear my name D'wane, I enter the ring to meet my opponent. On seeing my opponent, anger flows through my veins. “Anchor”, the crowd cheers, this will so be his last fight and indeed it was. I beat him up till I can barely feel his pulse. “D'wane, D'wane, D'wane” the crowd cheers for me and I smile and leave the ring to prepare for another fight. “Damn D, you were on fire” Chase says and I smile. After 2 more rounds, I grab my things and leave. Close to my car, I hear a clap behind me and turn to see Nicole. “You're invincible out there” he says “thanks” “are you going home” “yes, any problem” “could you come to mine for tonight” “no” “please D”. I stare at his blue orbs and get lost for a moment “why” “cause I need you” “fine, but better behave”. I drive home to change and get stuff for school tomorrow before going to his house. He shows me to the same room I slept in yesterday. I'm about to hit the bed when I hear a knock on the door. “What is it”, I say as I open up “could you come to my room for a sec” he asks and I follow him. It's a magnificent blue themed room. “ What is it Nick, I need to sleep” I yawn. He starts walking closer to me and clasps both my cheek in his palms “stay with me tonight, please” “what for” “cause I want to be close to the one I love” he says seriously and I start feeling weak for the first time in my life. “If you touch me, I'll kill you” I say and he chuckles. I climb his bed and face the other side. Sleep takes over me but in my unconscious state, I feel a hand wrapped around me.
