Chapter 34

Tyler’s Point of view. Tonight is the night of the barbeque. I’m standing in the basement waiting for Charlie to unlock the safe. For security, I am not allowed the code. My stomach tightens as I squeeze my phone. Charlie pops his head out from behind the door of the safe. “Hey man. You seem distracted.” I nod my head. “What if she says no?” Charlie chuckles and pats me on the shoulder. “She’s already married to you. I don’t think you should worry. Plus, I’ve seen the way she looks at you.” I step into the safe. The walls hold Renaissance paintings, jewels and small boxes line the wall for personal valuables. It resembles a bank vault. Number twenty-two is open, sitting on the metal table in the center of the room. The single most precious object I own glares at me from the table.
