(PIERCE'S POV)
As the door shut, Pierce scrubbed his face haggardly with both his hands. Thankfully, the engagement had ended, he still observed the after effect. He was grateful the noise didn't wake up his daughter.
He didn't condone those type of altercation with Caitlyn, but she wasn't at all far from the truth. Their relationship had gone distant for years now and it wasn't cloaked.
Pierce had thought she'd learnt to live with the situation the way it was, as he did, but it seemed he was wrong. On and on again, she brought up instances that took him back to 'why haven't you gotten used to this yet'.
Pierce wasn't in love with Caitlyn when he married her, maybe that was the origin of the mistake. Whenever he thought about it, which was often, he dwelt in regret. Although, he never wanted to regret having his sweet little angel, but sometimes, he couldn't help it.
Caitlyn was his lawyer, things got out of hand one night, and they had s*x. After he successfully got his father's company, they went their separate ways, Caitlyn went on with her life, and Pierce did the same. Pierce was shocked out of his mind when Caitlyn revealed that she was pregnant.
He was thrown into a different scene entirely, he experienced a state of high perplexity and demise. After a rollercoaster of thoughts, mixed with his constant conversation with Caitlyn, he agreed to the motion of marriage.
Caitlyn also appeared to be in a state of dilemma, coupled with the fact that she had no family.
Pierce travelled down memory lane, he thought back to his childhood. He the absence of a father figure, screwed up his life. His mother was a drunkard, who had little or no time to pay attention to him grow.
Pierce never saw his father, not even on his birthdays. As he grew, he got to know his father's other family. Pierce recalled his state of pain and how he drowned himself in a pit of failed wishes.
When he got into teenage hood, he discovered Ethan's social media handle, there, he was able to keep up with the family he wished he had.
After his mother's passing, Pierce lived in solitude, not until he got hit with the strangest news. That's his father was dead and left him as his sole heir.
Pierce didn't want his child to experience what he did, his heart couldn't take it. He was going to create what he never had, a complete family and a present father figure. When Caitlyn was three months gone, they got married.
The start of their married life, was okay, but as they progressed, things went south. There was no connection be it emotional or physical.
While Pierce was only concerned about his child, and focused solely on her, Caitlyn was determined to make the marriage work. Pierce never really placed effort in that aspect, he believed that as long as he loved his child and cared for the family, they were good to go. After all, it was the origin of the child that caused the marriage to take place.
He assumed that after a series of failed attempts to get the relationship kicking, Caitlyn was call it quits, but she surprised him everytime.
Pierce glanced at the clock, what came to his mind next, was the lady he gave a ride home earlier. As he switched thoughts, his mood changed. He stroked his chin and began to rethink their last moment, how he became invisible to her all of a sudden.
Pierce scoffed silently as her picture came to his mind, how she was yet to remember him. His flipped his laptop open and began to work, maybe it was his life after all.
(CAITLYN'S POV)
Caitlyn rested on her room door, face first and her forehead pressed on the surface. As she analyzed her thoughts, she slowly shook her head.
The more she tried to get close to her husband, the more he distanced himself, making her mission impossible.
If it wasn't for her sweet child, she would have lost her fight a long time ago. She was aware of the circumstances that led to their union, but the fact remained that they were married.
she felt veins surface on her forehead as she grinded it hardly on the door. Pierce's actions caused her to clench her fingers tightly, bursting the glass she held and spilling the contents on the floor.
