Chapter 2: Grandmother's will

668 Words
Tamaras POV Present Mister Johnson began to read my grandmother's will. All her stocks, paintings and businesses went to John and Annie, also most of her money. She just left me some to pay my school debt and to live decently for a couple of months. They had a noticeable smirk on their faces, thinking that this was a humiliation for me, but I never expected anything from that old lady. Our bond was broken long ago. She probably made me responsible for my father's fate and decisions. Still, it was kind of annoying looking at my half siblings mocking me, until Mister Johnson started talking about my grandmother's real estate. She had some beautiful and luxury houses and apartments in California, New York and Florida, again almost everything was for John and Annie, but then something happened. - For the country house and vineyard will be left to Tamara Vargas, I am sure you will know what to do. Mister Johnson finished reading while everyone was left speechless. We stayed quiet for what seemed like an eternity, afraid that making some sound would make that last line true. Mister Johnson decided to be the first to talk, waking us up from the shock. -Well, that is all, you can come back in a couple of weeks to sign the papers for your new belongings. He stood up while guiding us to the exit. We were still very stunned and obeyed without saying a word. I was the last to stand up and exit his office. When I came back to myself, I realized that Annie and John were gone and I was in Mister Johnson's lobby. -Oh, Tamara. I am glad you are still here. Could you come to my office again. - I obeyed almost mechanically - Look, I know that a fight will come to you very soon. That family of yours… -They are not my family - I interrupted him and instantly realized my bitterness. -Sure… what I am trying to tell you is that they will not let you keep that house, you and I know it and your grandmother knew it too. I was looking at him frowning while he took some papers from his drawer and put them in front of me. -Your grandmother made it very clear that your papers had to be ready to be signed immediately after the reading of the will. So… Here are the house papers. My secretary just gave it to me. You just have to sign it here and it's all yours. He noticed my distrust while I read the paper, but to my surprise, it seemed legit. -I know that in the past years you and your grandmother did not have the best relationship, but she cared about you… she always made sure that you were fine, in her own way, of course. Especially after your parents died. -Well, she had a funny way of showing her concern.- I said while I signed the paper - The last thing I remember of her is her shouting at me that I was a disgrace and letting Jules insult me. Not very Miller from her. - I laughed a little. -Yeah, not her best moment - he said while taking the papers and giving me the deeds of the house. When I was about to leave, his gentle voice stopped me. -Here… - I turned and saw that he had some kind of envelope.- It is a letter from her. She asked me to give it to you in private. I grabbed the envelope and looked at it for a moment. That old woman never ceases to amaze me. I thanked Mister Johnson silently. -Oh! And it is better if you do not tell your siblings about this, not the letter and not about the signed papers. Let them think that they are winning for a while. I give him a smirk as I walk out of his office and nod. This will be fun…
