Chapter 23

2733 Words

23 Don noticed Shane had been unusually quiet during the previous few days. The weight of the world seemed to be on his shoulders. Not one to pry, he waited for Shane to feel ready to get off his chest whatever was bugging him. His behavior was out of character, even more so because it was just this past weekend when everyone had gotten together, and Shane had seemed to be walking on air, having decided he wanted Abby and Devin to become a significant part of his life. Don had mentioned Shane’s mood to Kate, and she agreed that patience was the best course of action. After a few more days had passed in silence, Shane couldn’t think straight. “Don, can I talk to you about something, but don’t say anything to Kate?” “Shoot.” Shane stopped the truck in the parking lot of the tree nursery.
