Waiting

The break felt longer than it should have. --- Days moved slowly. Too slowly. --- But that wasn’t the part that surprised me. --- What surprised me was… me. --- I actually asked her. --- Out of all the things I thought about doing— that was the one I never imagined I’d go through with so directly. --- And yet… I did. --- The more I thought about it— the more confident I became. --- My chances were high. I could see it in how we talked. How things had been between us. --- So I didn’t keep it to myself. --- I told my friends. --- Nathaniel already had his reaction. Josh just listened like he always did. --- I even told Natasha. --- At that point, it didn’t feel like something to hide. --- It felt like something that was already decided. --- All that was left… was time. --- And during that time— we talked. --- More than before. --- Messages turned into calls. --- At first, it felt unnecessary. But then— I started wanting to hear her voice. --- So I called. --- Not casually. Not randomly. --- I prepared. --- Before every call, I went through it in my head. What I’d say. What she might say. How I’d respond. --- Like a script. --- Not because I had to— but because I didn’t want to mess it up. --- I didn’t want to sound awkward. Didn’t want to say the wrong thing. --- Sometimes I even tried things. Small lines. Flirty… but controlled. --- Testing reactions. --- And it worked. --- At least, it felt like it did. --- We talked for long periods. Sometimes about nothing. Sometimes about everything. --- And the more it happened— the more it felt clear. --- I had her. --- Maybe not officially. Not yet. --- But it was already there. --- That feeling. --- I was happy. --- Not the quiet kind. Not the distant kind. --- The kind that made everything feel lighter. --- Like things were finally going my way. --- For once. --- And all I had to do now… was wait.
