THE GIRL WITH NO PAST

522 Words
Night had fallen over Seoul. The city glittered with thousands of lights, but at the top floor of the Obsidian Tower, the atmosphere was far colder. Inside a large office surrounded by glass walls, silence ruled the room. The office belonged to Jeon Jungkook. King of Seoul’s underground world. Crime boss. The man whose name alone could silence a room. Jungkook stood near the window, his hands resting inside the pockets of his black trousers as he looked down at the glowing city. The reflection of the lights shimmered in his dark eyes. Behind him, several men stood quietly around the table. Taehyun leaned against the desk, flipping through a thin file with a frown on his face. Finally he sighed. Taehyun said slowly— “This is strange.” Jungkook didn’t turn around. Jungkook said calmly— “Explain.” Taehyun dropped the file on the desk. The sound echoed sharply in the quiet office. Taehyun said— “We searched everything.” He began counting on his fingers. “Immigration records. School applications. Bank transactions. Social media. Travel history.” He shook his head slowly. Taehyun said— “There’s almost nothing.” Jungkook finally turned around. His expression was calm, but something darker had appeared in his eyes. Jungkook said quietly— “What do you mean nothing?” Taehyun opened the file again. Taehyun said— “Vespera Moretti.” He read slowly. “Transfer student from Italy.” “Age twenty-one.” “Arrived in Korea three weeks ago.” He flipped another page. Then stopped. Taehyun looked up. Taehyun said— “That’s it.” The room fell silent. One of the men shifted nervously. Taehyun continued. Taehyun said— “No family listed.” “No financial accounts.” “No social media presence.” “No history before the transfer documents.” Jungkook walked slowly toward the desk. His movements were calm, controlled. But the air around him had grown heavier. He picked up the file and studied the pages. Jungkook said quietly— “Everyone leaves a trail.” His voice dropped lower. Jungkook said— “But she erased hers.” Taehyun nodded. Taehyun said— “Either she’s extremely careful…” He paused slightly. Taehyun said— “…or extremely dangerous.” Jungkook leaned back against the desk. His lips curved slightly. Not with anger. But with interest. Jungkook said softly— “I was hoping you’d say that.” Taehyun rolled his eyes. Taehyun said— “You look excited.” Jungkook chuckled quietly. Jungkook said— “I like puzzles.” Taehyun crossed his arms. Taehyun said— “She’s still just a college student.” Jungkook’s eyes darkened slightly. Jungkook said slowly— “No.” He remembered something. The calm expression during humiliation. The quiet warning she had given Ara. You might humiliate the wrong person. Jungkook pushed the file back onto the table. Jungkook said quietly— “Watch her.” Taehyun raised an eyebrow. Taehyun said— “You think she’s dangerous?” Jungkook smiled faintly. Jungkook said— “I think she’s pretending.”
