CHAPTER THREE-3

320 Words
SHE WOKE SLOWLY, HER eyes squinting against the soft light of the bedside lamp. Something heavy rested against her thigh. She reached down and dug her fingers into silky fur. Fammy purred, the contented sound rumbling under her fingers. Thank god, she was safe. “How are you feeling?” Bella managed to wrench her eyes halfway open and then had to snap them shut again when pain pounded like an anvil against her brain. “The light. Can you turn it off?” Edric reached over and flipped the toggle on the base of the lamp. “Better?” Bella opened her eyes and sighed, nodding. “Thanks.” “What happened out there?” Bella avoided his gaze, instead looking around the hotel room. His hotel room. And she was lying on his bed. Despite the reason she was there, and the pain in her head, her body warmed and clenched with interest as she realized she was alone in the room with him. Bella bit her lip with embarrassment. What a hussy she was. But her eyes slid guiltily in his direction and she had to admit, Edric Honeybun wasn’t just some random guy. He was the Edric Honeybun. And he was beyond yummy. Way beyond. She forced her slut-monkey side back into the little box where she usually kept it locked away and realized with a start that he was waiting for a response to his question. Oh, no, can’t tell him that. Bella struggled to come up with something she could tell Edric that would placate him and put the matter to rest. At least until she could figure out what the heck was going on. “I...” She lifted her eyes to his, grasping for a cogent thought. “I...um. I get these headaches. They’re very debilitating. Sometimes I pass out from them.” She looked at him from under her lashes to see if he was buying it. Seeing his expression, she barely restrained herself from biting her bottom lip again. Skepticism was definitely the predominant emotion she was seeing there. ###
