CHAPTER FOUR THEY DECIDED TO EAT dinner at Hell’s Kitchen, Hotel El Diablo’s surprisingly elegant restaurant. The place was done up in black and red, with vivid paintings of Hades and battles between angels and demons hanging from the black, fabric-covered walls. The tables were covered in garnet red, linen tablecloths, and the plates and glassware were all black. A swirling red and black lava lamp decorated the center of each table and fat vases of lilies dominated the sideboards and buffet table at the back of the restaurant, giving the place a pleasant, if funereal atmosphere. The waiters all wore horns and tails, which was fun, but seemed seriously out of place on the petite young woman who was their waitress.
