THE SIXTH FLOOR WAS quiet when Edric stepped off the elevator. A hotel guard leaned against the wall across from the elevators, looking bored. He straightened up when Edric tried to move past him, and stuck out a long arm to block his way. “Sorry sir, nobody is allowed in this part of the hotel. We have a dangerous animal loose up here.” Both men turned to look at Fammy, who was sitting quietly in front of the door to Room 666 blinking at them. She held one paw in the air in front of her, as if she’d been bathing with it when the elevator doors slid open. The fat feline blinked at them and said, “Meow.” Edric turned to the man and lifted one eyebrow. The guard shrugged. “She’s been like that since I got here.
