I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, the memories of the previous night's events still dancing in my mind. I couldn't wait to share my experiences with Emma and Cecilia, to relive the moments I had shared with Fred. As I got ready for the day, I found myself lost in thought, replaying the way Fred had smiled at me, the way he had looked at me with such intensity. I burst through the door of Emma's room, my eyes sparkling with excitement. "Emma, guess what?" I exclaimed, waving my hand to show off the sparkling ring that adorned my finger. Emma's eyes widened as she took in the sight of the ring, and I could see the curiosity written all over her face. "Oh my gosh, you got engaged?" she asked, her voice filled with excitement. I laughed, feeling a blush rise to my cheeks. "Not outrightly, Emma," I said, beaming. "He gave it to me last night. Isn't it beautiful?" I held out my hand, admiring the way the light danced across the diamond's facets. The ring was exquisite, a symbol of Fred's thoughtfulness and generosity. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my excitement. "There's a QR scan code in it where I can text him," I explained. "That's the main purpose why he gave it to me. It's just a sign of friendship." I added, trying to downplay the significance of the ring. But I couldn't help the way I felt - like I was walking on air, like nothing could bring me down. Lastly, I dropped the bombshell. "He is a Reed, Fred Reeds." I said everything at once, before I could realize, out of excitement. Emma's eyes widened even further, and she looked at me with a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "Wow, Alexandra, that's huge," Emma said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Tell me everything." I happily obliged, sharing every detail about Fred's romantic gesture. I told Emma about the way Fred had looked at me, the way he had smiled, and the way he approached me like he was watching me for long. I relived the moments we had shared, the laughter, the conversation, the way he made me feel like I was the only person in the world. As we chatted, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. I had never felt this way about anyone before, and I wasn't sure what was next. But for now, I was just going to enjoy the feeling of being in love. I was going to savor every moment, every glance, every smile. Emma listened attentively, oohing and aahing over the ring and begging me to tell her more about Fred. I laughed and joked with her, feeling carefree and happy. As we talked, I realized that I had never felt this way about anyone before. I had never felt such a strong connection, such a deep attraction. It was exhilarating and terrifying all at once. But for now, I was just going to enjoy the ride. I was going to see where things went with Fred, and I was going to take every moment as it came. I was ready to fall in love, to take the leap of faith, and to see where it would take me, even though everything felt so fast. As I walked with Emma to Cecilia's boutique, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and happiness. I had met someone special the night before, and I was still reeling from the experience. I didn't know whether to share the news with Cecilia or not. When we arrived at the boutique, Cecilia greeted us with a warm smile. "Hey, girls! It's so good to see you again, Emma, and your order is ready," she said, leading us to the back of the store. As we browsed the racks, Cecilia asked me, "How was the party, Alex?" Emma couldn't resist spilling the beans about the ring and Fred's romantic advances. "Cecilia, you won't believe what happened to Alexandra," Emma said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Cecilia's eyes lit up with interest, and she leaned in to hear the gossip. I blushed as Emma told Cecilia about the ring and Fred's romantic gesture. Cecilia's expression changed from interest to surprise, and she looked at me with a mixture of concern and curiosity. "So, did you text him?" Cecilia asked, looking keenly at me. "Not yet," I responded. Cecilia got up, looking concerned, "Why? I think you should text him right now and thank him for the ring." Cecilia handed me my phone, and I felt rushed. I hesitated for a moment, feeling a sense of uncertainty. But Cecilia's encouragement prompted me to send a text to Fred. "Hey, I just wanted to thank you again for the beautiful ring. I love it!" I typed with my fingers shaking and heart racing with anticipation. I sent the text and waited for Fred's response. It didn't take long for my phone to buzz with an incoming text. "You're welcome, mademoiselle. I'm so glad you like it. Would you like to meet for lunch today?" Fred's text read. My heart skipped a beat as I read the text. I looked up at Cecilia and Emma, who were both grinning at me. "I'll meet you at that new bistro downtown at 1 pm," Fred's text continued. I knew I wouldn't be able to make lunch that day, but I didn't know how to put him off. I was clueless, like a 13-year-old in love, while Emma and Cecilia gave me hints on what to respond. "Can we do lunch tomorrow instead? I have an appointment today," I sent the text, and just in time, Fred responded, "Alright, Miss Grande. New Bistro downtown, 1 pm tomorrow. Do have a lovely day." Emma screamed with excitement, giving Cecilia a hug. "This is too much drama for a startup love story," I thought to myself. At 23, I still felt this way about love – too much, too soon. I just had to brace up and create a lasting impression for my first lunch date with Fred. As we left Cecilia's shop, I couldn't help but notice that Cecilia didn't seem genuinely happy for me. Her smile seemed forced, and her eyes lacked their usual sparkle. I brushed it off, assuming Cecilia was just being her usual, slightly dramatic self. As we drove home, I felt a mix of emotions – excitement, nervousness, and a hint of uncertainty. When we arrived home, Ethan was just about to leave. "Ethan!" Emma called out. Ethan looked and beamed. We got out of the car as Eliana helped us take the items to my room. "Hi, Ethan," I managed to say. "Hello, Miss Grande. I actually came to see you," he replied. This wasn't the first visit; Ethan always likes to come visit anytime convenient. I told Emma to go in, and Ethan and I walked to the garden at the side of the house where we usually hung out when we were kids. "Is there a problem, Cancer?" I asked, trying to tease him. "Not again, Alex, today's important," Ethan responded with a formal tone. We had a seat, and I always loved the garden space. We did. I was about to flinch on our childhood memories, but Ethan started off with his important conversation. "About the Peak contract we discussed at the Gala, are you really in for it?" he asked in a shaky tone. "Of course, I am. I don't say things I'm not prepared for," I replied, looking at him in the face. "Frankly, I'm scared after going through the records of the contract. Six selection stages, at the 6th, the winner is announced." "On their records, the Reeds have been up on this task for a very long time, that no group dares to try. From the Grandes to the Derlins, to the Leonas, and this is quite triggering and suspicious. No competitors from the three other groups since the 5th Edition, and I think there's a reason for that." I took a deep breath and asked, "So, what are you implying?" Taking the words bit by bit. "I'm certainly not implying. I just think we should find out the reason why our families backed out since the 5th edition," Ethan replied. This was quite a mouthful, and I didn't think in this light. "Okay, let's see how it goes, and regardless of our findings, we must give the Peak contract a trial," I told Ethan, and we both nodded. We agreed to meet every Wednesday at my place to discuss our agendas and successes. I walked Ethan to his car, where he handed me my favorite ice cream and cookies. "I guess your ice cream couldn't help but get defrozen, I'm sorry, I got carried away." I smiled and responded, "It's fine to be scared, but you're too scared to be a Derlin heir." We laughed, and he got into his car while I walked into the house. Later that evening, over dinner, I thought to share my lunch date with my family. Somehow, I said it bluntly and emphasized that it was on a friendship basis. Mum was pleased to hear about my date with Fred, but Dad remained unusually quiet, and his expression turned serious as he brought up the Peak contract. "Alexandra, I know you're interested in the Peak contract. It's not going to be an easy one. The competition is fierce, and we need to make sure we're prepared," he said, his voice filled with concern. I nodded, as my mind had already started racing with strategies, ideas, and questions. The contract's opening was in two days, and I was determined to make a strong impression. As dinner came to a close, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness about the upcoming events. My lunch date with Fred, the Peak contract, and the mystery surrounding it all swirled in my mind like a storm. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. Tomorrow was a new day, and I was ready to face whatever challenges came my way. Little did I know, tomorrow would bring its own set of surprises, and my life was about to change in ways I never could have imagined.
