He ordered Suzy a vodka and coke (a double) as well as a glass of Merlot for himself in an attempt to appear sophisticated.
They talked about the film amongst other things and, although he said it himself, Spencer was on fire. He talked knowledgeably and wittily making a particular effort to make Suzy laugh, which she did at length.
