Chapter 7Christmas with Jona and Gramma is wonderful. A steaming carafe of mulled wine and a crackling fire greet us when we’ve shoveled our way to the big house for the second day in a row. She welcomes us with hugs—Jona doesn’t hesitate even for a second to return it—and her homemade gingerbread cake with cream cheese frosting she knows I can’t get enough of. Gramma isn’t much for Christmas decorations, but she has a small collection of candle holders that she’ll break out on Christmas Eve, and she’s placed them in various spots around the kitchen, making it cozy and welcoming.
