I watched as the water flowed over my fingers, first stained red, then fading back to its usual clear state. I scrubbed my hands, feeling the slickness of blood wash away as the steady rush of water filled the silence, drowning out everything else.
A muffled scream from behind tore through the quiet, yanking me back to reality. I twisted the tap shut, the sudden silence ringing in my ears as I turned and walked back into the room.
