CHAPTER 86
BELLA'S POV
I sat beside the lake, tossing stones and watching the water shift as each one sank to the bottom.
It was the most peaceful I'd felt in days, away from Fiona and all her constant worrying. She still believed the baby growing inside me was a blessing, something to hold on to. I wanted to believe that too, but my head was all over the place. I just needed to be quiet for a while.
I lay back on the grass and took a deep breath, letting the smell of damp earth and trees fill my lungs. I closed my eyes, trying to imagine myself somewhere far from here.
A simple life in the human world. A job I didn’t hate, someone kind beside me, and maybe even… this child.
“I’ve been looking for you,” a voice cut through the quiet, dragging me out of my thoughts.
